Problems with mainboard, BIOS, BIOS update, battery, AC adapter.

i'm looking for a bios update for this machine. Anyone know of one?
I'm trying to run Ubuntu 8 on it but I keep getting a bios error message. If anyone has had a similair problem please let me know if it can be resolved.

There doesn't sem to be a bios-update.
What kind of error do you get? Does the Ubuntu-CD boot?
Which Ubuntu-version is it (8.04, 8.04.1, 8.10 alpha1-6)?

Its version 8.04.1
First I managed to load the software but it was really slow (30 minute boot time + 5 minutes to open help file).
Now the installation just hangs at several points with various errors arising. Any ideas??

Please start the Live-CD with the parameters noapic and noacpi and see if something changes.
It would also be helpful to remove the parameters splash and quiet from the list and watch out for any error messages while it boots.

Newest BIOS is 1.03c. You can find it under Amilo M1405 in the download center.
