Amilo Pi 1505 second memory slot  Topic is solved

Postby mcw » Wed Sep 06, 2006 10:52 pm

I've just bought an Amilo Pi 1505 with 512M and having seen it had 2 memory slots and can take 2G RAM. Bought a 1G SODIMM. The manual shows you where the memory is, however its just a single slot. Where's the second slot? If any of the other posts are to go by then its under the keyboard. Can anyone confirm this? I have unscrewed the screw marked kb but cannot work out how the keyboard is removed and don't want to be blindly prising plastic on a new laptop!
Can anyone get me from 1G to 1.5G of RAM?
I'm amazed that the manual doesn't cover this and it seems to be a problem on so many FS laptops.
Thanks in advance for any help,
Mark

hi,

I have an AMILO 6450G here. It seems to have the same memory slot config: one under the battery, the other under the keyboard. After you unscrew the keyboard, turn the laptop into the normal working position. Look carefeully around the keyboard edge: you should see 4 discrete small tabs working on springs. You should gently push those in the direction of the keyboard center. There is nothing to force or bend there. You should try with some plastic or wood toothpick to not scratch those tabs. remember, those are on springs and should be pushed really easy and gentle towards the center of the keyboard.
let me know if there are still problems. have a nice day.

Done it!

I was sent the attached document and having followed it, now have a 1.5G Amilo 1505 :D
The latches attaching the keyboard are similar to the latches holding memory DIMMS, so you just have to push them away from the keyboard, gentle upward pressure will lift the keyboard clear of the latch. Not easy to tell when it is clear so I recommend just going round all of them, push them back and lift gently. With perseverance the keyboard will lift.
Many thanks to those who helped especially the sender of the attachment who I'll give full credit too if he/she wants.

Hi mcw I just got a PI1505 and would like to stick another 512mb of mem in it. Mine came with 512mb. But I have'nt found what type is fitted anywhere, so I just wondered if you could tell me what type as there seems to be 2 speeds available maybe I can find this out in system device properties? I will look tonight after work.

I think its this

The Misco memory you provided will work with your laptop assuming you have the 1.6G Dual Core. The laptop does support faster processors including the Core 2 Duo which have a faster front side bus and hence need faster memory. If you need further help then I'd need to know what processor your laptop has, otherwise good luck with the upgrade.

The datasheet on this page contains the fsb speeds for each processor the Amilo supports.

Thank you very much for the information! :D

I had scoured the offical documents and manuals, and was going crazy trying to find where the second memory module was. After a lot of searching, I finally found this place.

The PDF document is an excellent help, and I've now ordered a nice pair of 1GB modules. :)

Hey, sorry to revive the old topic, but I was wondering if there were instructions anywhere to installing RAM in the primary Module? Is it similar? Thanks.

Well, installing RAM in the primary module is even easier.

Simply flip over your laptop, and remove all the screws from the service panel (after removing the battery first), then open the panel.

The primary RAM module is right in the middle of the mainboard, just gently pull the securing prongs away from it and you can pull it out. Inserting the new module is exactly the same method as the one shown in the PDF file earlier in this thread; insert the module at an angle, then press down and it will click into place.

Then simply screw the panel back into place, put the battery back in, and that's it. :)

How exactly do you release the latches? It dosent work for me - I can move them away from the keyboard with a knife but as soon as I remove the knife away they seem to go click back in position?

Its a Amilo li 1818.

sorry to revive a dated topic, but i have spent days trying to figure this out im using cocktail sticks going into the latches, so the cockstail sticks going inthe the latches and the top end hanging out all facing towards the centre of the keyboard...

but yet even with the latches all pushed in the keyboard doesn't seem to want to come out (now i know im doing something wrong) but have no idea what!?

Hopefully someone can help me cause at the moment i want to throw my laptop out the window and hoping it hits the guys who designed the pi1505 (or all laptops with a second ram slot under the keyboard) thank you...

thanks for the pdf, it gave me an extra few more goes but still no luck :(

someone please help :)

thank you!!

I did it by using a bend paperclip I put under the keyboard like a hook to provide upward pressure and then at the same time use the tip of a knife to press the hatches in.

I was quite hard but I managed to do it in the end.

hi DjDingo,

thanks for the speedy response.. Where abouts did you put the paper clip, was it near the esc key or another key, just so i can get an idea.

also did you push in the latch one by one, or was it 5 knives in at once...

it's starting to stress me out
