I have noticed that the Final release version of Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope has a bug that the live cd & hard disk installation doesn't always detect the wireless. This is a shame because the beta did work and I had it running perfectly. Its a pity I deleted the iso of the beta when the final was released or I could have used it. I have brought the script up to date because some of the url's in the original had altered and the script will now do a full install of the wireless on jaunty go here to download it: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/roadrash/fsca16xx.sh

you will need to right click the link & select save as or it may display as text.
go it the directory you downloaded it to to and type the following to run it.

chmod 755 fsca16xx.sh
sudo ./fsca16xx.sh setup

now you will need to do a restart.

please let me know if it works.

hi donkey_hatstand I'm glad its worked for you.
you mention there was a problem with the structure of /etc/modprobe.d. Where exactly was the problem because it worked perfectly on Ubuntu 9.04 and really it should have been the same for Kubuntu.

I did what was said in a previous post. Updated my bios to v1.9 and then reinstalled Jaunty Jackalope. It everything seemed worked. i have the wireless set to start automatically in the bios. Sound also works out of the box.

This scrip(fsca16xx) is AWESOME, i used it on my intrepid installation.I greatly appreciate the work
I would like to be involved in the testing process, although I am still new to Linux.

If anyone wants the bois files i have everything you need to flash the bios.Files are for the Amilo LI1718. Just send me a message and i can e-mail it to you.

The only things that don't work are the shortcut keys. How can i fix it?

can i just also say that this thread is exactly what is great about the open source community.

this wireless thing has [had] driven me mad for nearly a week, but collaboration between a few people prepared to spend some time helping each other out and trying to make something better... even though it benefits a relatively small number of people...

i'm now blowing people away with kubuntu 9 on a laptop that i have hardly used since i got it because it runs vista, and changing to yet another microsoft product (xp) didn't seem like it was worth the effort. now it's all working i can ditch vista completely and just vmware xp when i need to.

donkey_hatstand I love using Linux myself. When I first started it was very frustrating as there was very little support for desktop users. Just about every piece of multimedia on the Internet failed to work but since the arrival Ubuntu, Firefox and the availability of all the plug-ins like flash & the restricted drivers, Linux has now at last made it to the mainstream desktop. If you like Kubuntu you want to also give Linux Mint and Linux Mint KDE CE a try. It comes with everything like the multimedia codecs & plug-ins already installed. The only downside of Mint KDE CE version is its speed of release after each new Ubuntu/Kubuntu.
The praise for this script really goes to damagedspline http://damagedspline.blogspot.com/ who must have spent many hours working on its creation. I think Assaf has finished working on this project now and it will now be down to this community to keep it going until Ubuntu supports the Atheros AR5007EG interface used in the Li1718 etc properly. It worked properly in the beta release of Jaunty so I don't understand why its broken again in the Final. Anyway its just as well this script is available to simplify things for people. I am very much a learner with bash scripts and don't know if I have enough knowledge to maintain it without some assistance from those more knowledgeable so any assistance will be gladly welcomed.

For some reason the wireless stop working even after reinstalling. So I used the script and it works like a charm except the fan button does not do anything. Is there anyway to get it to work?

If you still have the fsca16xx script in your home directory run it again in a shell typing:-

chmod 755 fsca16xx.sh
sudo ./fsca16xx.sh check

tell me if that helps

i've done a quick check of the script and it threw a few errors.

as soon as i get chance i'll post all the output, but for anyone else trying jaunty only i have temporarily re-used my previously posted script as a kludge to get online.

anyone else tried the proper script with jaunty yet or wants to give it a go?
