No sound after XP pro move from Vista : Notebook Li 1818  Topic is solved

Postby sonxfuj » Tue Aug 21, 2007 12:55 pm

am stuck with no sound problems. No conflicts on device manager & no error messages when trying to install the correct drivers (Realtek HD Audio driver) showing on add or remove programs. But only Audio Codecs, Legacy Audio Drivers, Legacy Video Capture Devices, Media Control Devices, and Video Codecs are showing on device manager. Tried every possible Realtek sound ever existing with no avail. Even installed the UAA Bus driver (KB888111.exe).... This notebook is a pain to run XP

It's as if no card is detected, DriverGuide toolkit doesn't even pick it up and add/remove hardware doesn't find any new card. BIOS has no option to enable/disable on board sound card...

Audio problem: Windows XP SP2

- Servicepack 2 required!

You need the right order for your driver installation:
- chipset
- KB888111
- Realtek HD Audio Codec

You must also make sure that you take the right version of KB888111:
KB888111_for_SP2 and, of course, the right language version!

You can find this update on http://fujitsu-siemens.com/ - download drivers - correct notebook model - audio

If you have already installed some non-working-updates, try to uninstall KB888111 and Realtek HD Audio Codecs, reboot and start at the beginning.

Regards
Borkar

remark: Vista does not need any additional updates like the KB888111 in order to use HD audio chips.

Hi!
I didn't want to open a new thread about this because I have seen a lot of people with the same sound problem when moving to windows xp, but I still dont get it fixed...

I think my problem is the same:
I moved my AMILO PI 1536 from winXPhome (delivered with the laptop and with fully operative sound)
to winXPproSP2 european portuguese version;

I had to fix that SATA problem during the installation by creating the customized disk with iaStor drivers, and everything went well.

Then, I followed the given steps: I installed chipset drivers given in the Drivers & Utilities DVD (also the up-to-date ones), then I installed KB888111PTG for SP2 (the right one), and then the audio drivers given in that disk (also the updated ones from realtek site) Everything goes well: no errors, no crunches, no blue screens... :?

As a matter of fact, as soon as I reboot, everything stays the same: no sound, no volume control loaded in the system tray and, according to control panel multimedia info, no sound device installed...

Please, I would appreciate very much any help, because I have followed all the steps, tutorials, threads I have found about this problem and I got no results, after several tries. If I should had provided any additional info about my system status to let you help me, please, tell me and I will attach it; I have very few koweldgements about computers and I fear I am missing something obvious, but I don't get it to work...

I REALLY need sound on my laptop, as soon as I get back to work in a couple of weeks

Thanks a lot for your attention! :D

NB: Could the problem be related to the instalation disk I made including SATA drivers... and that's why I get no success where other do? Or maybe I am thinking too much...

maybe you try to install Windows Installer Update 3.1 v2 in the right language version before you install Realtek drivers:

Hello!
Thank you for such a quick reply :D

I have uninstalled the Realtek High Definition Audio Driver (it gave me an error, but it seemed to be uninstalled :? ), rebooted, then installed the update you told me (in the right language), rebooted again and then installed provided sound driver again, and still not working :( Everything stays the same: like if there wasn't audio device.

Do you know any other clue or tip I could follow to solve it? I am getting desperate :( Maybe I should start over from the beginning, reinstalling windows and following any special steps?

Thank you very much :D

Uh now I found something new: in Control Panel, in "Sound properties and Audio devices" I chose "Hardware" tag and I saw in the list:

Microsoft UAA FUnction Driver for High Definition Audio - Realtek 880/860
Device status: This device can't be initialised. (Code 10)

All other devices are working properly (legacy codecs, video codecs, audio codecs...) It's the first time I see an "error" message about installed sound.
May this give any information about the problem? Is there anything I can do?

Thanks :D

weird....

Do BIOS- and hardware reset as described the the hardware FAQ here in the forum. Maybe then you install windows again and start(!) with the KB888111. Then chipset drivers and then Realtek drivers.

It is so strange, because I have installed all this so often by myself and I have never had a problem with it.

The last thing you could do, is to include the KB888111 into the Windows setup CD as I did it for my setup CD as well which is working fine. But this is more difficult....

I will read the hardware FAQ you mention immediately and try to integrate KB888111 into the disk using the same program I used to integrate SATA drivers (WinfutureXP iso builder, I hope I can do it with it)

You frighten me saying it's so unusual :( I hope I finally get it to work...

I will tell you the result as soon as I do it :)

Thank you so much for your help :D This is a ray of hope for me in this mess.

EDIT: I read BIOS-hardware reset consists on loading BIOS default settings and then turning power off, removing batttery and AC adapter and pressing power button for 10 seconds. And then... that's it? Can start a new windows instalation booting from the CD immediately? or do I have to set up anything from the bios menu first (hardware devices...), or any other thing I may not expect?

Just to be on guard and not cry if I find something unexpected and messy :D

It may be that you cannot integrate KB888111 with nlite or XP-Iso-Builder as you can integrate "usual" KBxxxxxx updates. But give it a try. If it doesn't work, you have to do it manually. This would cause some more difficulties...

Well, I will just try and see what happens.

And what about BIOS-Hardware reset? Is it that simple as holding the button 10 seconds and restarting to install windows again?

or is it necessary to set up anything else once done from BIOS menu and such?

thanks :)

simply do this:

BIOS- and Hardware-Reset (The standard solution for many problems!)
- Load in BIOS the "Setup Defaults", quit with "Save&Exit"
- Switch off the notebook, remove batteries and AC adapter, press the power button for 10 seconds

My sound is working now!!

I followed those steps and I thought everything was the same, but now it seemed to recognize HD audio bus in the control panel; I installed audio drivers 2 or 3 times and it finally worked! I really don't know what nor why, but one of the installations worked.

As a matter of fact, it keeps saying there is something not properly installed, and everytime I start windows it says there was a problem with the installed software. However, I haven't noticed any hardware malfunction, and any other driver given with the laptop is installed, so I let him go :)

Thank you so much for your help :D I was really afraid of not recovering my sound :D

I find out what that problem was: I had to reinstall modem drivers (somehow related to sound in the chipset) and everything is ok now; not a single error message on start up :D
