Hi i have bought an amilio d7830 from ebay faulty. The problem is the laptop powers on and i can here the fan working but there is nothing at all from the screen, have done a bit of research but couldn't find much of the same problem, so any ideas guys???? or is best to cut my losses and re sell it?

Try the "hardware reset" (see FAQ). Maybe you have luck...

Possibly it's a broken motherboard or graphics card. Probably not easy to fix...

I've had the same issues when I received my Amilo.

Replaced the CMOS battery, and everything works fine.

Installed SuSE 10.2 on it, and it works like a charm.

Sorry about the late replies.

1. If you turn the laptop upside down, and remove the three screws on the one plate and slide it back and upwards, you'll see the CMOS battery. It is a small, silver round disc. The main battery is the big, square, grey thing.

2. For SuSE Linux 10.2 go here.

Also, in this thread I posted instructions on how to completely remove the bottom cover - this will assist you in replacing the CMOS battery. (But, you do that at your own risk... )

step 1 - Open your laptop

step 2 - Take Out your ram

Step 3 - Clean your ram slot

step 4 - Clean your ram, and i mean clean it!

step 5 - Put it all back

step 6 - put your laptop on, and there you go
