Are you sure you're using the latest gutsy and not a tribe release?

you can know it quite easily by running at a console:
Code: Select all
cat /etc/issue

if the result has gutsy in it - it is probably a tribe. latest gutsy has 7.10 there.

2 solution possibilities:
1) update ubuntu
or
2) edit /etc/issue as superuser and replace "gutsy" with "7.10"

On another note... for all intersted, a preview for Linux Mint Celena support was added. I say preview since I can't test it here. So Celena users: I counting on you to file bugs.

Works

Postby kasketten » Tue Oct 30, 2007 4:07 pm

Hi,

It worked, but only the hotkeys work.

Can't find any wireless network and when i try to shutdown, the computer goes crazy.

It takes about 10 minutes of reboots to get the screen started again.

1) Please make suer that your wireless card is Atheros based
2) Are you sure that the long boot was not caused by harddisk scan?
3) did the setup showed anything unusual?

Well I think this slowdown maybe is caused by the lack of an internet connection(and proper IP addresses) and the deamons like apache, postfix etc that are shutting down very slowly when they do not have a net connection.
Anyway to debug this use lspci for the wifi card that you have + see the messages in the vt8, vt12, vt1.
Btw in order the net to be up you need it properly configured by the network manager, and that usually doesn't happen always the right way. :(

...?

Postby kasketten » Tue Oct 30, 2007 4:27 pm

Hi,

It's a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Li 1718,
then i try to use the hibernate or shutdown (or what its called, have the danish version), there is coming a black screen, and nothing happens. Then i must kill the computer by holding the turn on button down, until it shutdown. When i will turn it on, the display will now be showed, so i have to wait, and then restart. And after some time doing that, the display appears.

The installation ran without problems.

and it's now the hard disk boot time.

OK, the hibernation issue is caused by the faulty ati fglrx driver... theres nothing I can do there... :?

Well do not expect the hibernation/sleep etc functions to work..... no way for now and the problem is the propriety drivers of ati and the ati radeon express 200m built in card of the amilo li1718. If u want a working hibernation - use the xorg free drivers.
everything else can be made working...
I have the same laptop and it is ok with this script... though i used not the current one but the one in svn 15 days ago.
do a lspci pls and post here.....
some models of amilo li1718 have diff wifi cards

Install

Postby kasketten » Tue Oct 30, 2007 5:09 pm

Hey,

Did just try the install again, and this time, there came something:

Code: Select all
kasketten@kasketten-laptop:~$ sudo ./fsca16xx.sh setup
[sudo] password for kasketten:
[: 374: missing ]
Welcome to the Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo A16xx automated patch for Ubuntu Gutsy

This script will enable some of the laptop features such as the Special buttons such
as Wireless, Browser and Fancy Fan

System startup links for /etc/init.d/fsca16xx.sh already exist.
Downloading additional files required by setup
Setting all features to auto-activate on startup
Adding kernel support for Special Buttons
Warning: Unknown Atheros chipset - replacing native wireless driver
Loading kernel modules for Special Buttons
Done. Please logout and relogin in order to start using the hotkeys.

This is a known issue when running the script more then once with the setup argument.

Before running a setup for more then once, one should run the script with the remove argument.

Wireless problem in Gusty Gibbon running AR5007EG

Postby ViPeR » Tue Oct 30, 2007 8:58 pm

Hi I followed your steps in running the script religiously but as I run the script in "hangs" here...

coenie@coenie-laptop:~$ chmod 755 fsca16xx.sh
coenie@coenie-laptop:~$ sudo ./fsca16xx.sh setup
[sudo] password for coenie:
[: 439: missing ]

Blacklisting some modules
Updating package lists. This may take a while...

Above is where it stops and nothing happens...I do not have ndiswrapper installed.
I'm very new to Linux and am still learning so bear with me please
