Problems with script on Li1718

Postby Belisarius » Fri Nov 23, 2007 1:09 pm

Hi,

I had this script all working fine under Feisty. However last night I did a complete reinstall of Gutsy, tried running the script again and all did not go well :(

When it downloads and tries to compile the acerhk.c files it comes up with several compile errors. Some of these seem to be where code had been cut and pasted into the file in the wrong place or duplicated (as in duplicate values in a case statement). Some code appears to have been inserted into the middle of existing functions.

Anyway, I tried to clear up what I could but no joy. It also fails installing the wireless driver but I can do that by hand. However without the code to enable the wireless key there ain't much point!

Has anyone else used this script with Gutsy?

I will try and post the errors later tonight. For some reason the forum wouldn't let me post last night.

Hope someone (DamagedSpline?) can help.

Cheers

Andy

Hi,

i use gutsy, and it's working fine now.

If you have problems installing Gutsy or installing wireless and so on, on it.
I can guide you.

Have you also a Amilo Li1718? or is it the other one, i can't remember the name right now :P

yes, I have a Li1718. Like I said. I've had all the buttons working before with this script but something seems broken now.

How did you get your buttons working?

First i tried to uninstall them, by using the script on the page, and installed them again.

That didn't work well, so i looked around in the other forums, and found the acer drivers, and install them from theirs.

Tomorrow i will try to find the link for you (Later today)

Please help with this damn wireless button

Postby stepupdancestudio » Thu Jan 17, 2008 8:42 pm

So I understood there is a method to get the button to work. Of course I downgraded from Vista to Xp and my amilo 1718 wireless button just won't work. I downloaded all the drivers but none work. I saw some codes and I understood if they are imputed in the computer then the wifi button works. I don't know anything about computers so I don't know where to put those codes or how to work with them. Can someone help me and guide me all the way? I would really appreciate it. And I don't give a damn about the silent mode just the WIFI because I travel a lot and I need the internet all the time. Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi,stepupdancestudio,
WiFi button drivers are located on your Drivers & Utilities CD.You had to get it with laptop. Launch it. Choose manual installation. Step 1: Amilo Li 1718, Step 2: Specific system utilities, Step 3: Windows Vista and and push Search. You should see Search results: FSC Launch Manager. Now just push button on the right side. Thats all. Sorry for my poor english, but I hope I helped.

Mint Daryna KDE edition

Postby roadrash » Thu Jan 24, 2008 12:54 pm

Hi damagedspline, I've been waiting for Linux Mint to release their KDE version of the latest 4.0 Darynar release. As the Mint 4.0 Darynar release is based on Ubuntu 7.01 Gutsy Gibbon I hoped that it would when i run the script no problem. It does everything including activating the buttons but fails installing ndiswrapper & the driver. As this version of mint comes with an earlier version ndiswrapper already installed I uninstalled it with synaptic and edited the script to download the latest version which is now 1.5. after it failed to install the driver I did it manualy using the ndiwrapper GUI but even though it installs the driver & shows as "hardware present", it still does not show up in KNetworkManager. Can you help?

here are the errors i get during install

New Working MadwiFi driver for Amilo Li1718/AR507EG Chipset

Postby roadrash » Thu Jan 31, 2008 8:37 pm

At last there is a working native linux driver for the Atheros AR5007EG Wireless chipset.

I wasn't going to release this script until later, but I have now amended it and tested many times without any failures so I guess its OK.
Non of this would have been possible without the exceptional work of Damagedspline & the people over at madwifi.
I hope you all find it useful.

To install the drivers download the install script at the link below to your home folder:
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/roadrash/laptop/fsca16xx.sh

1. Now open a shell

2. type: chmod 755 fsca16xx.sh

3. type: sudo ./fsca16xx.sh setup

Thats it everything is automated and you just have to wait for it to finish.
When it has finished you will need to reboot to activate everything.

If using KDE, right click the Knetwork manager then select the network you wish to connect to and enter any security details. These will then be stored in KDE wallet.
I'm not to sure what you do in Gnome or XFCE desktops but the drivers will work on both.
This script was primarily written for the Fujitsu Amilo Li1718 Laptop but should work on any other that uses the Atheros AR5007EG WiFI chipset.

This script will work on all versions of Ubuntu & MINT & probably many other disros as well with some modification, Or the Madwifi drivers can be downloaded from the link in the script and installed manually.

Still having problems

Postby Belisarius » Thu Mar 13, 2008 11:58 am

I had started a new thread to deal with this but it makes sense to append it here to keep it all together.

Here goes....

From a fresh install of Linux Mint 4.0.

Script runs, downloads and compiles but at the end I get:

I dont understand why you are having problems because i have now used this script countless times without a problem. The only difference between us might be that I use the KDE version of linux mint where you maybe using the gnome desktop version.

I found a problem the same as yours here though, take a look:-

http://www.ubuntugeek.com/atheros-5007eg-with-madwifi-on-i386-platform.html

and at the end of the article, in comment 4 user says

hi, your post is very good. But I have problems with the last command:

$ sudo modprobe wlan_scan_sta

FATAL: Error inserting wlan_scan_sta (lib/modules/2.6.22-14generic/net/wlan_scan_sta.ko) : Unknow symbol in module, or unknow parameter (see dmesg)

I hope you can help me.

and the reply to this problem was :

#4. this should not be a problem. Go ahead and restart and check your Network Manager in your Tray next to the clock.

Are you sure you have a problem with the driver? It might be that you need to setup your wireless network connection.

Hi,

looked at the thread you suggested and disabled the Atheros in restricted drivers and ran the script again. No error this time.

I can now connect to my network. However the only slight glitch is that when I press the button to disable the wireless it pops up a box saying 'wireless deactivated'. When I click it again to reactivate, the light comes on again, it is activated, but the box that pops up still says 'wireless deactivated'.

Not a deal breaker I'll admit but it would be nice for it to all work nicely.

So, seems I'm up and running again. Thanks for posting the script and for the help.

Cheers
