Are you using ubuntu?

If so then go to the menu and select "system" then "resricted drivers manager" and disable the atheros driver.

Now try again.

Hi,
I am using ubuntu hardy. yesteray I did a clean installation from the installer CD and the the patch. now i get the buttons to work, but i don't get connected.

Pushing the wireless-button always gives the message 'wireless dectivated'
the browser- button has no effect at all
and the fancy fan- button always deactivates...

disabeling the Atheros Hardware Access Layer (HAL) and the support for Atheros 802.11 wireless LAN cards, then rerunning the script unfortunatly brings no change...

please excuse my poor english--- i am trying...

thanks for any suggestions

This script hasn't been tested yet on Ubuntu Hardy. Personally, I'll wait for the final release because it i will probably have the latest MadWiFI drivers that this script uses and should work straight away.

ERROR: Module ath_pci does not exist in /proc/modules
ERROR: Module ath_rate_sample does not exist in /proc/modules
ERROR: Module ath_hal does not exist in /proc/modules
ERROR: Module wlan_scan_sta does not exist in /proc/modules
ERROR: Module wlan does not exist in /proc/modules

may that be the reason? Why are these modules missing?

-- i guess i need to wait 8 more days for the final release

Postby amerio » Sat Apr 26, 2008 12:12 pm

thank you for the great post
I've been trying to make the wireless work on my Li1718 and finally its working
I've installed the fsca script everything worked but when I restarted
each time I hit the wireless hotkey , it get notification "Deactivated" when I hit again I get the same notification "Deactivated"
I think it suppose 2 be deactivated then activated
though even when I get deactivated notifications it works but after like 10 seconds
Internet button doesnt work the same for Fan button
any help would be appreciated

You can set the wireless to be activated on startup in the laptops bios.

well its not about that
I've tried both , turned on wireless in bios , then I hit the wireless button it said "wireless diactivated" I hit it again I got the same notification
its working , when I hit the wireless button its really turning wireless on and Off , but when I wanna the hit the wireless button to go on it suppose to give me notification "wireless activated" and when I want it off should be "wireless de-activated" but in both cases it gives me "wireless deactivated"

Hi guys, I'm having a hard time trying to make the wifi run on a Ubuntu 8.04 and a Amilo 1718.

I have managed to make ndiswrapper work, but I can't turn on the wireless. The button doesn't work. I don't know where is the problem since it worked with the 7.10, and I had no problem at all compiling and installing the acerhk module. There's nothing weird in dmesg and everything seems to be ok, but the acerhk driver it's not doing his magic :(

I have run out of ideas, and I don't know where look in order to find which is the problem. Any help will be welcome. Thanks ^_^

I finally got it to work by following the instructions here:

http://www.ubuntugeek.com/atheros-5007eg-with-madwifi-on-i386-platform.html

don't kwow how, don't know why but it did the job.

Thankx for your help here.....

Well I tried that and it didn't work for me. It seems to find the hardware but not any networks. If I try and set up a manual one it still can't get an IP or signal. WPA or Open.

I've enabled wireless in BIOS so it should be there.

I've found this PC VERY frustrating and ended up using it less and less. My wife goes on maternity leave in 2 weeks and will need WWW access but it looks like she's going to be using Vista :(

Anyone else had any success under Hardy? Isn't it supposed to work under Hardy out of the box?

Cheers

Andy
