Black screen on A1630

Postby Astaroth » Sun Sep 09, 2007 2:53 am

I have an Amilo A1630 which is having problems - whenever I turn the laptop on, the screen is just black. I've plugged an external monitor in but it doesn't work either. fn+f4 does nothing when the monitor is plugged in.

Any ideas? Not really sure what to do next.

Did you try the hardware reset as described in the FAQ?

ok, found the FAQ. Completed hardware reset (remove battery, remove BIOS battery, hold power button for 10 seconds) and still no life.

Fans are running, lights are on on the power button and button next to it, and the light above the PCMCIA slot is on. But no other signs of life :(

hi this happens to me

Hi there, this is happening to me, and i'm afraid if you have the same problem as me it might be signs of something worse. When turning on try holding the power button down for bout five to ten seconds or until it beeps. You may get life out of it, as i do. But do you have the same problem that when the computer should normally restart (when you press ctrl, alt and del and when you choose restart from within windows) it turns off but does not fully power up again? If this is happening to you then whatever you do don't try and reinstall windows.
I am currently in the process of trying to reinstall it but it never gets past 'installing devices'. In the setupapi.log file that windows creates as its installing its last entry is to do with acpi (advanced configuration power interface) which passes power functions to the os rather than the bios. I was thinking that the power button playing up could be a direct indication that some form of the ACPI bios or one of the chips that control it has gone fuzzy.
This may or may not be anything to do with yours just beware that i have tried everything and i mean everything to reinstall windows and its still freezes. It even freezes on live linux cds. If you get any developments or get it seen by a pro, i'd love to here what they have to say cause i'm sure its fixable i 'm just hoping it's cheap.
Good luck

Thanks for the response. I tried holding the power button for 5-10 seconds with no result, the screen will still not come to life.

I aslo have the same problem with my L1300 laptop. i applied pressure on the graphic card( the chip next to the processor with a heat sink on it???) and it worked. But as soon as that pressure is removed its back to squre one.Maybe it is not soldered properly or it gets loose bacause of the heat.I,m looking for someone with knowledge of removing and putting it back properly.I,m in south africa. Anyone who can or knows where i can have it done please''''''''

I'll add my 2 penneth worth to this as I also have the same problem but on an Amilo A1645G. The lights are on but there's nobody home!

It seems to be intermittent still on mine. though it's getting worse. Initially it seemed that if the screen was opened up fully or (and this one's weird) the laptop turned upside down it would often spring into life.

What I have noticed is it that it doesn't seem to just be a case of the screen not powering up and displaying, as when the screen is blank it simply doesn't appear to boot at all.

A service manual would be nice, but they seem to be rarer than rocking horse ****

If anybody gets anywhere with this, I'd love to hear.

I have an amilo 1818 with similar problems.
At the moment it plays up every time i power up.
I press the power button, and the power light comes on and stays on but nothing on the screen.
I then hold the power button down and lights flash and it switches off.
Following this procedure i can then press the power button again and it switches on but i have to go through the repair your computer options to get it running again.
Its been back to fujitsu twice now, and the final time they claimed it had water damage voiding the extended warranty i forked out for.
Their repair quote totalled at just under £300 to replace the dvd drive and keyboard, so i opted not to have it repaired.
Had it back, fresh install etc and it ran fine for a week and then the problem slowly started happening more and more again.
I hate this laptop wiht a vengeance, the first one i had got stolen so even worse is that i have bought the laptop twice and had nothing but grief.
The other problem is the poor wireless signal it always gets, and the fact that every time i switch on i have to turn on wireless capability through the diagnose a problem feature in vista.
Cant find a fix for this either.
I am considering throwing it down the stairs as i have wasted so much time with this machine that cost a good £550 (twice)
Any fixes or advice would be much appreciated.
