Amilo Pro V2030 fan problem  Topic is solved

Postby Roy Davison » Sat Sep 15, 2007 12:18 pm

After a couple of months the fan in my V2030 began to make a terrible noise and then stopped all together. I found a replacement fan for about $60. But I hesitate to spend $60. for two months of fan operation if it does not last any longer than my first one did. Have others had problems with these fans? Does anyone know of a better fan that will last longer? or the same one for less money? (In the meantime I have an external 220 case fan drawing air from the exhaust hole at the side of the laptop to keep it cool, but this solution is not very portable.)
Thanks, RD

There's a chance that you don't have to buy a new fan at all. You're right, the fan of the v2030 isn't that good, I also have this problem often with my v2030.

But in every case it was enough to just clean the fan. You can unscrew the fan from the mainboard, then pull the rotating part out. It's not mounted to the case part, just held there by magnetic force. Pull gently and you can easily take it out. A thin brush then helps you to clean the fan. Put everything back together, the noise should be gone. From time to time it's a good idea to put a tiny drop of oil on the axis, because you remove a bit of oil every time you clean the fan.

Amilo Pro V2030 fan problem

Thanks. It worked! A word of warning, however, to others who might try the same solution. It was not possible to 'gently' pull the fan out. The only way I could get it out was to pry it out with the blade of a small screw driver. The vanes of the fan are made of very brittle plastic and in the process of prying it out, I broke two of the vanes off. It is probably possible to pry it out without doing this. I was not careful enough (I did not expect them to be so brittle). So be very careful. There was no dirt on the vanes, but putting a little oil on the shaft allowed the fan to rotate freely, and it worked again after that. It also seems to work ok even with two vanes broken off.
