Fedora 7 on Amilo Pro 3515

Hello guys,

Help me please, because i'm a total newb in this kind of problems. I tried to install Ubuntu Feisty 7.04 on Amilo Pro 3515 and the Video Card just kept giving errors all the time (probably i wrote the wrong code). Anyway, I got tired and decided to move to Fedora 7. The install is perfect, but once it is done, I can't start Fedora in GUI mode. Does anybody know how to help me?

My sincere gratitude.

Just checked with fujitsu's website and it says your laptop uses the Intel GMA 950 video chipset. I did a google search on "linux fiesty intel gma 950" and it comes up with lots of examples where other people had problems and fixed them.

this search applied to Ubuntu 7.04 fiesty but here is just one example:

If you have no luck then I would also try some other distros such as PCLOS, Simply Mepis 6.5.02 and Kanotix.
They will all run as live cd's so you don't have to install them to your hard drive. If you get one of them to boot to the desktop then you can always go into the /etc/X11/ folder and get a copy of its xorg.conf configuration file which you can use in any other distro to get the screen working.

Install Ubuntu and check http://www.amilo-forum.com/topic,1116,-Amilo-pro-3515-Ubuntu-Graphic-Card-Problem.html

I have got the same laptop and I'm quite happy with this configuration.

BTW - Ubuntu 7.04 should install without any problem with 640x480 resolution during install process (you need to hide top and bottom panels in order to be able to click next button ;) and should jump to 800x600 after install without any problem. If it doesn't then let me know.

Once you have 800x600 running go to the link from my previous post.
