Li 1818: XP can't see WLAN hardware

Postby Poppy » Mon Sep 17, 2007 8:51 pm

For reasons I won't go into I have 'upgraded' my new 1818 from Vista for XP SP2. Encouraged by recent posts I managed to build a custom XP install CD slipsteaming the SATA drivers to get around the 'no hard drive' issue during XP install. With my custom disk all went well and XP installed perfectly... except... The system does not see the WLAN hardware at all. It was working OK under Vista so it is there but XP can't see it. It does not show up in device manager and neither is can the Intel Wireless Network Connection ID Tool!. Because it is not visible the driver (from the FS support site) does not install. Judging from the FS driver I think the WLAN chipset is the Intel 3945ABG. Can anyone please confirm this or help with this problem?

Thanks

Hi Poppy

I did exactly the same as you, i.e. created a custom CD with sata drivers slipstreamed and managed to install XP Pro on my li 1818, together with all drivers, except for the wlan.

After hours of searching and going the same route as you, I was about to give up, then I noticed in Device Manager 2 x devices with the familiar yellow excalmation marks.
One of these, which shows as a USB device, turned out to be the wlan card (would you believe). So I connected the li1818 to my Router with an ethernet patch cable (RJ45) and updtaed the driver, letting it search the Internet ..... and hey presto ..... the damn thing found it and installed it straight away.

I then unplugged the ethernet patch cable, rebooted (necessary to clear/change IP) and all worked perfectly.

I hope this helps you.

if it didnt work what philenfield posted:

You need either this driver
http://tinyurl.com/ypkocf

or this
http://tinyurl.com/2ggz49

or both.

Windows XP Home is a supported OS for AMILO Li 1818, so just have a look at www.fujitsu-siemens.com , go to the download section and have a look at what is available.

Good luck.

WLAN hardware

Postby Poppy » Thu Oct 25, 2007 6:23 pm

Thanks for the post.
Like you I had the unkown device marked as USB but no matter what I did I couldn't get it to turn into the WLAN device. I must have gone through the process you decribe dozens of times. So I gave up and bought a PC express WLAN card - not many of those about yet I can tell you. Got that working no probs... then a couple of days later - yep you guessed it I turned on the PC and there it was 'new device detected' and since I still had the drivers on the pc they installed and bingo the built in WLAN works a treat. Hooray and Boo - anyone want to buy the latest PC express N1 WLAN card?
