Battery for Amilo La1703

Postby Ray_of_Light » Tue Sep 18, 2007 10:02 am

Few days ago I bought an Amilo La1703. Price was very good, and I coldn't resist it...

I upgraded the BIOS, the WLAN and Video Driver from the site, since the computer was "freezing" from time to time. Now, it looks OK.

Then I realized that the very low price brought some drawbacks. The battery provided with the La1703 was only half full; I mean it contains only half of the cells inside it. With this battery, the on-time is 1 hr. 15 min., not enough to watch a DVD...

I had the same experience with some other entry-levels laptops; manufacturers save few $ on the battery, by providing half-capacity of it. Usually, the "reduced" battery is only provided to OEM, while the replacement battery (usually) is full size.

I haven't been able, so far, to locate a part number for a "full-blown" battery; the Fujitsu-Siemens web site do not provide any info regarding their batteries.
Web sites selling compatible batteries carries confusing information; some indicates the La1703 battery being 11.1 Volt (3 cells), and others 14.4 Volt (4 cells).

Now, could somebody indicate what a suitable battery replacement for the La1703? It should have a capacity 4000 mA/h minimum, while the one provided is only 2000 mA/h.

many thanks

Antonio

The official datasheet also says
3 cells, 11.1V / 2200mAh, app. 1h battery runtime or
4 cells, 14.8V / 2000mAh, app. 1.2h battery runtime,

so both voltages should work.

But I don't know if there's one with >= 4000 mAh.

Thank you.
I checked my battery, and it is 14.4 V 2000 mA/h capacity.

Physically, the casing of my battery can accept six 18650 Li-Ion cells, while only four are placed inside.

May be FSC makes a 11.1 V 4000 mA/h battery for the La1703? It would boost the runtime to > 2hrs.

Again, thanks

I know it's an old thread but i have found this link and wonder if anyone tried a battery such as this (second on the list)
http://www.psaparts.co.uk/laptop-notebook/fujitsu-siemens/amilo-la1703-battery-adapter-charger.html
A battery with 5200 mAh should power about 2.5 h
