Li1818 XP home setup not seeing HDD  Topic is solved

Postby hoolagon » Fri Oct 05, 2007 6:13 pm

For 4 weeks now I have been fighting vista trying to get it to so what its told, but its just getting worse by the day. I need an OS which is stable which does what it is told with no funny business. I need to remove this over-bloated OS and replace with nice simple XP. There is an urgency here too because my 28 day period in which i can exchange the laptop runs out this weekend!

This is where Im at, I followed... topic,26,-Installation-of-Windows-XP-Home-Pro-PE-FAQs.html
using the usb floppy method to install the latest drivers iata76_enu.exe

I was able to extract the files, boot to XP CD, press F6. Then I was given a list of 4 controllers. I tried each one in turn and each had the same result... The setup does not see the hard drive.

Please help, I've been at this for 3 days now tna and have run out of ideas.

I got it working now. I didnt realise that the list of 4 controllers was just the top 4 and that if I pressed the down arrow it would scroll down to the one I actually needed.
After I got past this stage the install stopped again and demanded I insert the Service Patch2 CD. Luckliy my original Vista install was still intact as I was instaling to a different partition so I was able to rebooting VIsta, download the SP2 CD and start over. Im just telling you this just in case anyone else has the same problem.

Anyway, got it working now and dual booting between vista and XP.

Thanks for the sticky, it was extremely helpful.
