DVD Drive removal on Amilo L7320

Postby garyc » Tue Oct 16, 2007 8:53 pm

I have searched this forum and wider to find the answer to this question - how do I remove the DVD drive from an L7320?

The DVD drive no longer recognises CDs, though it will play DVDs as normal. Having looked into this it sounds as though teh drive is kaput, hence my need to remove and replace.

On this forum many other Amilos appear to have a single screw holding the drive in place but I cannot see anything like that.

I therefore removed all screws in an attempt to remove the case itself but that appears to be clipped in place somehow and I do not want to force and break anything.

So, if anyone knows how to remove the DVD drive any help would be greatly appreciated

In terms of getting a new one, I think the only real option is to contact FS spares on 01925 260880 (if I wrote the number down correctly when I spoke to FS to see whether my laptop had 12 or 24 months guarantee).

Not called them, so no idea how much a drive would cost. Of course, getting a new drive might shed light on how it is fixed...

DVD Drive removal and Replacement L7320

Postby Richard The Red » Wed Jan 16, 2008 2:20 pm

To Replace the DVD Drive on your L7320, you first need to remove the Battery, Then you find 3 small screws in the battery houseing undo these and put somewhere safe. These 3 screws hold part of the top facia in place, This facia also holds your keypad in place as well. Lift screen lid and place at its furthest limit.

The Black facia with the ON switch and center hinge cover should now be removed, to unclip best to start at each corner and lift, it is cliped in with 3 clips at back and 3 at front edge.

Once facia removed lift keypad and you will find a recess with a small screw in about halfway down and about 3 inches from left side, the retaining screw goes through the end tab on the drive, if unsure use the replacement drive as a template.

One replaced refitting is reverse to stripping.

Please note that the Keypad clips in on the bottom edge and is secured by the facia, the top edge of keypad has 3 long and one short retaining strips.

Hope this helps.
