Black screen after cleaning coolingsystem

Postby amiloguy » Thu Oct 18, 2007 2:42 pm

I just cleaned the coolingsystem from dust etc , and when I put it together after it starts but the screen is black, the external video dosnt show either when I plug it into this computer screen!

any ideas?

I took out the processor without using the switch on the side (it was stuck in the cooling thing wich i didnt notice and now i just putted it back in)!

I've got the very same issue at the moment (with an Amilo Pi 1556). Removed the cooling system, cleaned it and put it back and now the screen remains totally blank when booting (no POST). The backlight lights up, the fan starts spinning and the HD light flashes, but I don't see anything on the screen. It stays that way until I shut it down. Any suggestions on how to fix this issue? I'm thinking the GPU might be busted, but I'm definitely not sure.

EDIT: Some more information. The display doesn't seem to be the only problem, because I can't hear the Windows start up sound. This, and some searching around the internet has led me to believe that the problem might lie in the motherboard. I tried fiddling with the RAM in case the issue was caused by faulty memory, but this didn't do anything. I'm starting to believe I can't remedy the issue by myself, but I'll try pretty much everything over the course of the next few days. Perhaps I'll get lucky.

MORE EDIT: Successfully connected the laptop to an external monitor - I can see it loading Windows (though it's dim and garbled) and then I just get a whole bunch of different, garbled colors. Seems like the GPU is causing this anyway.
