Locked HDD and supervisor PWD

Postby simce » Thu Jun 22, 2006 9:09 pm

Hi all,
Great forum, keep up the good work.
I have a problem and i do not know if there is simple soultion.
I put supervisor and user pwd on BIOS on my Amilo L6825, and borrowed notebook to a friend. He tried 3 wrong pwd attempts and after that my supervisor pwd is locked and i can use only user pwd that has unlimited access to bios and notebook, but problem is that now i can not make more partitions to hdd, and i'm affraid that i'll be unable to reinstall windows later.
Is there any safe way to check if i can write into boot sector of HDD since i'm affrad to try something like fdisk /mbr and than to destroy mbr and be unable to reinstall OS?
I tried with partition manager but without any success. Maybe i'm doing something wrong?
In bios hdd write protect is set to Disabled and boot virus protection is set to Disabled!

Did you try to edit your bootsector in Windows? Maybe there is an antivirus program that prevents modifications.
You could try to boot from a Linux live cd and edit your mbr with a tool like fdisk or parted.
