La1703 - No brightness control after wake-up  Topic is solved

Postby Ray_of_Light » Wed Oct 24, 2007 1:18 pm

Few days ago I realized that my La 1703, after awakening from suspend state, has no longer the brightness control available in the Control Panel.
I'm running BIOS ver. 8.2 and the OS is MS Vista Basic.
After resume, it is still possible to control the brightness with the Fn Keys.
I did a full system restore from the installation disks, I re-flashed the BIOS - but the problem is still present.

On top of this, two days ago I received an update from Windowsupdate that was intended to improve the reliability of MS Vista. It had no apparent benefits; now the computer boots with minimal brightness, and only with after a second reboot I get the normal display brightness.
After this update, the brightness control is still missing after the PC resume from suspend mode.

I believe Fujitsu-Siemens should team-up with Microsoft to avoid La1703 to become a total fiasco.

Best Regards,

Antonio

La1703 - No brightness control after wake-up -SOLVED

Postby Ray_of_Light » Mon Nov 05, 2007 1:27 pm

After contacting FSC, and some tests from my part, I have been able to solve this issue. Now I can sleep my La 1703, and when it is back on I have the correct control of brightness. Also, it now boots always with the correct brightness level.

The problem was with the video/chipset driver. I was installing the updated driver from FSC website, without completely removing the old one.
Windows Vista has to see the video adapter as "standard VGA" before installing the new driver. With this procedure, the update works perfectly.

Thanks

Antonio
