Extend the lifetime of your rechargeable battery

Because the rechargeable battery is often the first thing, which breaks and has to be replaced, I have some tips for you:

  • Always discharge the rechargeable battery until the notebook gives a signal (e.g. by beeping) - this is the case at about 10% as Windows shows
  • Then charge the rechargeable battery at once
  • If you work on power line and don't need the rechargeable battery, remove it before booting. As far as I know this is useful because the rechargeable battery doesn't become hot and some chemical process takes effect slower.
  • If you want to store the rechargeable battery, then don't do this at full or empty charge. The best is at 60% or 70%. The storage should be as cool as possible, but not cold, so about 16°C (61° fahrenheit)
By the way: After about one month, discharge, charge to full capacy and discharge to 60% again and restore again.
  • No absolute discharging: This means if the notebook tuned off because of low batteries, then never turn on the notebook again with the same rechargeable battery and without energy wire!
