CPU upgrade for Amilo L7300

Postby SteveF » Wed Oct 31, 2007 3:54 pm

Hi - can any one advise on the best CPU upgrade option for my Amilo L7300? I have 1GB of RAM fitted but I'm dissapointed with the general speed of the laptop.

It currently has a 1.5GHz/1M/400FSB Celeron processor in it (ref SL8MM). I have tried a Pentium 4M processor 1.8GHz/512k/400FSB (ref SL6FH) but the laptop wouldn't fire up with this installed.

If anyone has anyother suggestion for speeding up my machine I would be very grateful!

Thanks Aaron - I saw thread but couldn't understand, on the basis of what I read, why the Pentium 4 M chip I tried was incompatible. Any suggestions?

It's another processor. Pentium M is not the same as Pentium 4 M.

Thanks Aaron

So am I right in thinking that a Pentium M type 735 cpu will be compatible and given a boost in speed?

Compatible, yes. Boost of speed depends on your applications... the main advantage of a Pentium M is imho the better power saving technique (EIST).

For a better speed when loading Windows itself or programs you could upgrade your hdd to a fast one (afaik the standard disk of the L7300 isn't that good, you could do a benchmark with HdTach).

Thanks Aaron - I did wonder about the hard disk - is there any specific spec I need to know when hunting for a replacement? I've changed hard-disks in my desktop but laptop components are a new world for me..
