D Drive temp folder  Topic is solved

Postby Jason » Fri Nov 23, 2007 5:28 pm

Hi there, I recently brought an Amilo Li T1718 and have noticed that there seems to be what i think is a 25gb partition of the hard drive. this D: drive has a 25gb folder of temp (.tmp files) that were all created when i got the laptop and havent been accessed since. It says on the box that there is 12gb devoted to system recovery so this souldnt be it as it's 25gb. So my question is this, what is this folder and partition used for? Is is system recovery or is that loaced on the normal C: drive? Or is it leftover files from the vista home installation.
It all boils down to, can I safely delete these files and remove the partition so its all part of the C: drive again. If i cen i'd appreciate help on removing the partition.
They're not really causing a problem, it's just i'd like to free up as much space as possible, and if the files are doing nothng other than taking up space i'd like to be rid of them.

Theres a screenie of the drive, folder and files in the attacment.

Thanks in advance
Jason

Hi, I had the same problem with my Amilo PI 2530. I sought the help of my technologically inclined friend, and we figured it would be safe to delete the files, as D: was obviously a partition, and the files had not been accessed since the date that I bought the laptop and installed Vista. I deleted them with no ill effect.

Repartitioning your drives:
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Window ... c1033.mspx

This link will be of help in repartitioning your hard drive so it's a part of C: again, with ONE EXCEPTION (in step 3). When you right-click on D: do not shrink, but instead "DELETE" the volume, then right click on C: and select "Extend Volume"

With best regards,
Jyri
