re-installing Windows from one Fujitsu to another one

Postby tel999 » Fri Nov 23, 2007 7:52 pm

Hi all,
The wife and me both have Fujitsu laptops, both different models though, we 'seem' to both have the same set of discs, including the XP recovery disc.

I cannot find my set of discs at the moment, anybody know if it's ok to use my wifes recovery disc to re-install windows XP on mine or is each disc matched to a particular machine?

I did try to install with her discs but when I checked the number in:

Control panel ---> System ---> General (just under the resistered to: bit) they were both the same (on my laptop and hers) so I thought i'd better not try to activate it, does it matter that they were both the same or is that showing that it's the same recovery cd?

I then thought i'd use a generic copy of XP from one of the other computers, all went well, I input the number on the bottom of the laptop and installed with no problems. all drivers installed then went to activate it, it then said invalid number. I can only assume Fujitsu uses a different set of numbers for the recovery discs than normal windows discs.

So, to recap, Can I use my wifes recovery CD to install on my laptop or is 1 disc matched to 1 laptop?

Thanks in advance

Terry

My knowledge obout this is that there is no difference(except intgrated patches or HDD controller drivers), except for models with a big time gap between. And I think you shouldn't even think of activation of the instalation because Recovery CD is the so called Corporate type of installation. Just use your own serial number.
