LI 1718 memory issue

Postby bobajob14 » Sun Dec 02, 2007 2:27 pm

I have a LI1718 with 1gb of memory. I purchased another 1gb (DDR2 - PC5300) which the laptop won't reconise as being installed. If I take out the origonal and replace it with the new it works fine, but they won't work together. Any ideas? :(

i have the same problem. the new memory is a crucial ddr2-5300 1GB if that helps. Its almost as if the max memory is 1GB???

2 GB memory

well, they are selling most of their li1718 with 2 GB ram. So try it with the ram type, that is exactly the same one, that is installed already in the machine.

solved the problem - it was only crucial memory that didnt work with the laptop, when i bought some kingston memory it worked fine.

How mad is this??

Postby yesnikki » Wed Apr 09, 2008 2:23 am

My father and I both have the same li 1718 notebooks, bought on the same day from the same shop.

My father decided to upgrade his ram to 2x1gb(2gb). when putting the new ram in the bios only recognised one of them so he ended up with one of the new 1gb and one of the old 512mb in and it eventually saw them. As he had one 1gb spare he gave it to me only to find that in my laptop, it wont work, it only sees one or the other but not both.

I went out and bought a 2gb kingston and it sees that fine but will not see the old 512mb if i put that in.

Now my father has 1.5gb of ram and I have 2gb ram but his rating has gone up by 0.5 and mine has only gone up by 0.1 !!!!

Now that is really mad! any one any ideas as to why???
