amilo recovery not good?

Postby inewie » Tue Dec 11, 2007 9:22 pm

Hi,

I have just purchased an amilo xa 2528 over the Internet? I am waiting for it.
I started reading the manual on the internet and surprise. Does the recovery software that comes with the computer only give me the opportintity to create a single and factory recovery point and disks? I thought I could create different restore points and disks(as Norton Ghost does) and restore the computer to any point. What happens if computer breaks in six months? Do I have to reset it to the factory default and then install all programs, patches, files, etc. No way!, I do not want that. I think ACER is delivering computers with a proper restore software that gives you the chance to create as many points and disks you want, so If I have a hard disk failure or virus I just restore to the last safe point.
Is really the fujitsu siemens recovery software as sad?

How do you find a solution for this? How do fujitsu siemens users back up all the system configuration and files and restonre in a few clicks using images. I accept suggestions, because that is the way I want to work.

Afaik there's a hidden partition on the harddisk which contains the data that will be burned on the dvd. So it is not an imaging software and you can't create restore points - if you want that, you have to use other tools - there is freeware or you can buy some software.

Thank you for your answer, do you know a free software for creating and restoring images. Norton ghost is expensive for home use. I still think it is a pity that this functionality is not included. If I had Known before, I would have gone for an acer. Recovering a system is one of the most important aspects when using computers.

I think this subject should be given special attention. I see in the forum lots of people wanting to install other operating systens, bringing back the old one, etc. There sould be a specific area in this forum for creating and restoring harddrives and partitions, since this is real magic. Once you see this working you really want it.

I use http://www.partimage.org/ , but I don't have to backup NTFS partitions (NTFS support is experimental, I use Linux with ext3fs for work).
There's of course more open source or freeware available, search engines should help ;-) It's just important that you verify that the backup works - before you really need it...

I do not know, do you mean the recovery system that also came with xp? so you can bring the computer to a previous state, as long as there is no hard disk failure or virus that also inserted itself in the recovery point.

ok, you are right. You, also get the possibility to image copies of your hard drive if have Windows Vista Buisness or above, as far as I know. At least that´s what I have read.

Thank you.
