I found some threads that brightness control doesn't work (you have to adjust the brightness before Linux is loaded...) and wireless doesn't run out-of-the-box (but ndiswrapper works).

Just try it :-)

I don't know if 64 bit is a good idea... could cause problems with ndiswrapper, I think. (And there aren't many benefits...)

Hi
I know topic is rather old, but I'll give a try :-)
How you can ajust brightness before loading Linux? In Windows?
Ubuntu 8.10 is great OS, but I can't use it becouse the screen refresh rate (with nvidia driver) is 50 Hz and could't ajust brightnes
Cheers

Try the Fn key combinations - before the Linux kernel starts, they should be controlled by the BIOS.

Can you use xbacklight to controll the brightness / is there some promising output if you do
Code: Select all
 cat /proc/acpi/video/GFX0/DD0*/brightness
?
When it comes to refresh rate, may you please paste your /etc/X11/xorg.conf?
