Yes, I had the same problem
(the remote control not working at all) on my 1437G one year ago and in the forum I read that to sort out this problem
you have to 'hard reset' the notebook. To hard reset it there is an exact procedure, involving the removal of the battery pack, of the power supply
and the pressing of the power botton for an exact time. Now I don't remember
this procedure and I've again a similar problem with the remote control, then I think I've to remove the cmos battery as you did.
