amilo m1420 mainboard energy contact problem/partinfo

Postby zaf » Tue Dec 25, 2007 12:30 am

Hi!
I have my m1420 for 2 years and now have an interesting problem(actually my solution is more interesting :)...
I had similar problem all the time but was not that vital, and was going away after few minutes.
first the problem before was, when i turn the system on, only the cdrom led was lighting and nothing else was working out of fan for 5-10 seconds, and system was just waiting like that,
it was waking up again after few turnoffs and turnons...
but now it is really crucial...
i think there is some kind of connection problem on some electronic point on the mainboard but i don't know what the things i see on the mainboard are:(

after i saw some malfunction on lcd i found out that i could make it work again by pressing on some points of the laptop body or carrying it by one hand from left corner while keeping it horizontal...
yea it is quite funny to tell about it like that, working while carrying by one hand but not 2 nor on a flat surface ...

anyways,
the problems occur with that connection problems are listed below:

*lcd
*graphic card
*sound card
*wlan card
*sometimes rear usbs
*sometimes harddrive
are not functioning....
while fan and the cpu are working...
that i know while the system is not restarting with that connection problem it only halts, but the fan runs much faster mostly...

but when i find the point and press there somehow, they all work...

to tell with the photos

when i first realized the lcd had problem and there was no sound..
later i found out not only lcd, as well the displaycard has connection problem, while the keyboard or mouse input does not effect the image on the lcd during this problem but after right connection it shows the change...

afterwards i tried to find what's going on and pressed random points on the housing of the laptop with finger :)

and found out the right point to press is this in the picture.

then i opened the cover, and saw what is under...
but i have no idea what it is ..
but i surely now, if i press on the black spunge thing there, everything works fine...

so now my temporary solution is to put a plastic piece inside the housing just on that point with few milimeters papier and mount the cover again, but unfortunately it is not enough...
so
i had to create a small hill kind of point on the table matching that point of the laptop and run the laptop on that hill over the table, as it is not working on flat surface :(

but it is now really hard to use it while trying to balance the laptop on one point of contact :)

yea,
after that long story...
here is my question...
does anybody know what is that copper plate (probably heatsink for sth) and what is underneath ?

i'm afraid i break sth more on the mainboard if i keep using the laptop by pressing that point, but have no idea what will happen if i open the whole body and try to investigate what that copper plate and the things under....

thank you for reading it all :)

and thank you in advance for your ideas and replies :)

Hi

You can download the service manual:
http://mtc.mitacservice.com/visitor/v_FileDown2004C.asp
The M1420 is based on the Mitac 8050D.
