Amilo 1840 Uniwill BIOS update

Postby Fruitsalad » Fri Dec 28, 2007 9:09 pm

Could use some advice here.

My Amilo D 1840 has developed an annoying overheating problem. This didn't use to happen and I've owned the computer for soon 4 years. I works fine as long as I'm not doing anything demanding and then when I do all of a sudden the fans go into overdrive and a few seconds later the computer dies down or freeze.
I've tried installing software to control my fan speeds but it seems the bios won't support it. I can't even view processor temperature.
I've got the latest bios 1.05c but I found using cpu-z that the mainboard model is uniwill 258sa0. And at Uniwill I found this page with bios updates that seems more up-to-date than those offered by fujitsu-siemens.
http://www.uniwill.com/UserDownload/N258SA0/N258SA0.htm
Does anyone know if this bios update will work on my computer or if it just will destroy it? Or if there's anything else I can try to fix it?

Thanks!

Hi there, mate!

I have allso Amilo D1840w laptop and i´m going to flash the BIOS. I have investigated whit Everest -softwere and it says Uniwill motherboard, aswell. Have you tried to flash whit those packets from uniwill. On Fuji-Siem.. pages the latest bios flash is 1.05c. From Uniwill u can have up to 1.09 flashes.

Mainly my broblem on my lap is how to disable the "Beebs" at startup and get rid off the FujitsSm... -logo. BIOS at this moment is the same when I bought it, mayby 1.04c. Otherways its old but has ran quite well. Nowadays I have installed XP pro 2500 whit SP3RC2. It runs still very hot but in limits of max temp.

Cheers

Jukka
