Volume control not working on Pa 1510

Postby mardon » Tue Jan 08, 2008 1:02 am

After a crash I had to re-install windows XP media centre addition. It all went on ok.. But the sound can only be altered by changing the WAV level and not the main volume Fn control keys. I get the heads up on screen saying the volume is changing but its not actually effecting it.

I have downloaded the KB888111 HD Hotfix and also download the latest Realtek drivers. This is driving me INSANE!!!

IN the device manager I have a question mark by the following device "Modem Device on High Defention Audio BUS" I cant find the correct drivers for this.

ANY help would be most appreciated. I've been trying to fix this for ages :(

Where did you get your drivers from?
If it's not the FSC-site maybe you should try the ones from there.
Please uninstall your current drivers before you try new ones.

The order does matter:
1. chipset
2. video (maybe you can skip this, as it works, but not sure)
3. KB888111
4. audio
5. modem

The audio and the modem devices share the same bus, this is why you get the question mark in the device manager.

Ok i'll try tonight. Is there just one version of the KB888111?

I got the drivers off a CD that came with the Laptop. Although I've got updated ones for the realtek audio.

I'll try tonight and report back.

Cheers mate! :D

Ok, I had a look at the FSC-Site now. It seems like you will not need the KB888111-patch for your notebook.
Just install the drivers listed there.

btw:
I mixed up the installation-procedure (I will edit my previous post too):
KB888111 (if needed) should be installed prior to the audio-drivers.
As far as I know, the KB888111 depends on the audio-device and on the systems language.
But I'm not sure whether XP MCE needs it at all. The only thing I know for sure is, that on a "normal" XP service pack 2 is needed to get it working.

good luck!

Ok well I have the file k888111 so i'll uninstall everything and install it anyways (does the order matter when uninstalling?) then re install in the order you have listed.

I really hope this works its been driving me mad for ages! Hate not being able to fix things.

I don't know if you have to take care of the order when uninstalling.
Maybe it is easier/safer to reinstall windows from scratch.

Nah took me ages to get all my .mkv HD codecs and Style XP working correctly. Already had to do it twice. Didn't realise you couldn't actually use the laptop on your lap. LOL it was overheating and corrupting things. If all else fails i'll start again. But... I'd rather not. 8)

Ok i've done that and the error has gone away in the control panel. But i'm still unable to get the Main Volume to work. It goes up and down but does not effect the overall sound??

I'm also trying to get the optical S/PDIF port to work. Not having much luck there ether. I have all the correct equipment too.

Ok still no luck with the master volume.

But

I have got the optical working. In the realtek audio manager on the Audi I/O tab you have to click on the little picture of the speakers and then select the SPDIF.

Still only showing 2 channel speakers at the moment. Trying to figure out how to get 5.1 :(

Ok got the 5.1 working. i didn't use the Realtek audio though. I used a 3rd party application called AC3 filter and bypassed it that way.

The receiver is set to auto surround sound (i.e. it detects which digital input it is receiving i.e. DTS or DD) So if I play a .mkv with a Dolby Digital Soundtrack it picks it up and all 5 speakers work. The same is true for DTS sound tracks.

Never had 5.1 before. Its amazing. Tested it on House of the flying daggers where he's throwing the nuts against the drums. Adds a totally new dimension.

Really recommend. My system was £200 from play.com
