Flash pen drives are not recongnized by Vista! Pls help.

Hello everybody,

i have a problem with my amilo+vista.

All usb flash drives I try to connect are not supported by Vista system.
There is no description of the problem at web sites of companies manufacturers of those flash drives.
I suggest it could be a general usb amilo problem.
Any ideas what could that be & how to solve it maybe?

Thanks a lot in advance!

some questions:
1) Can you run other USB-devices like mouse, keyboard, webcam...? (maybe USB is deactivated in the bios or the drivers are not installed correctly)
2) Do you have the same problem when using another OS (e.g. Knoppix)?
3) Which file systems are used on your USB-sticks?
4) Do they work with other Vista-driven computers?
5) What type of Amilo do you have?

-- YES, other devices work correctly.
In my bios it is not possible to swith advanced periherals or not, it's just a stupid notebook bios, if you know what i mean.

2) Do you have the same problem when using another OS (e.g. Knoppix)?

With my notebook I have only one OS installed, i.e. Vista.
I don't really care what is going on with Knopix+Amilo. I have only this Vista stuff.

The type of amilo I don't remember.
But the same usb pen drives work PERFECTLY on my Toshiba notebook, there is also Vista installed in there.

So the problem is Amilo.
Please who dealed with those bugs let me know if you ever fixed that. Thanks

P.s. That Amilo stuff is my mum's computer. I told her not to buy it. Take Toshiba as I did, I said. But she didnt listen. Now she has her buggy Amilo instead of a good computer.

1) So USB in general works. (nothing wrong with your Amilo ;-) )

2) Testing your USB-sticks with another OS on the same computer could show if the problem just comes from some badly configured Windows-settings. Please try that if you want to be sure.
If Knoppix is too much for you to download, you can also use Damn Small Linux.
Do you have some question or exclamation marks in your device manager?

5) You can find the name of your Amilo-model on one of the stickers on the bottom of it. It's most likely something like Si 1520, Xa 2528 or Pi 2530. With this information maybe a user who owns a notebook of that type can give you more detailed hints.

Reinstalling Vista from scratch maybe solves the problem.
