Amilo Pi2515 - Better touchpad drivers??

Postby martinofmoscow » Fri Jan 11, 2008 5:46 pm

Hi, Just got my new Amilo Pi2515 and very please with it apart from the location of the Fn key (which can't be helped!), and the touchpad options... I.e. There aren't any! Sure I can turn the thing off and on (although it always defaults to ON every time I turn on), but the main problem is the dreaded 'Tap' function, which I hate, as I inevitably end up tapping the cursor into the middle of other sections of text as i'm typing... can't emphasise how much I hate it!

Another nice function, apart from turning off 'tap', would be to set an area on the right-hand-side of the touchpad to use for scrolling, which I could do my default on my old Toshiba.

So with the Amilo Pi2515 you can do none of this it seems, i've spent some time searching for a better driver, tried installing the Synaptics driver (which does not seem to work, i'm assuming it isn't a Synaptics pad?), and i'm now using TouchFreeze, which improves the situation slightly but i'd really like to be able to disable the 'tap' and enable scrolling. Anyone know a solution?

Thanks, Martin.

Did you get any help with this, Martin, or solve it any way? I have exactly the same problem and have tried every resource I can. I currently have a query out with F-S, but I am pretty sure they have no idea on this one. I think the basic problem is that the touchpad isn't recognised as a touchpad, but as a mouse under the Vista driver and as a Pointing Device under the Synaptics driver (I believe it is really an ALPS touchpad but their driver doesn't help either). So the drivers then disable the functions that would enable you to set things up the way you want.

Yep, good point about it being recognised as a mouse rather than a pad. Had wondered about that. Truth is here that the pad is not supported by suitable drivers, hopefully someone at FS can sort it, not really very good. Otherwise pretty pleased with the laptop! Can you let me know if you hear anything from them? Thanks. Mart.

Hi all,

I installed the synaptics driver http://www.synaptics.com/support/drive.cfm and it works perfectly. Hope it works for you too.

Which laptop have you got? First thing I tried. Works but no better or worse - no additional functionality to disable tap, scroll etc so no use unfortunately. Come on FS! You've had ages on this.

Is there a version date on the synaptics driver? Like Martin I tried this first and it didn't work, but if there's a new version since January it might be worth trying again.

I have an FS Amilo Pi 2512 running Vista Home Premium. I downloaded the "Windows Vista 32-bit Edition v10.1.8" driver, installed it and now I can scroll with the touchpad. All functionalities from the driver seem to work. Including disabeling tap (in which case I have to use the buttons below the touchpad). The properties of the driver say it's Synaptics Touchpad v6.2 (on Port PS/2). No problems here so far. Let me know if you need more info. Sorry for my poor English, I'm from Holland.

BTW, how many mousedrivers are installed on your computer (including the hidden ones in the Device Manager). On my PC none. Maybe you have to delete already installed drivers before installing the Synaptics.

Did you already try <Fn> + <F9> to disable the touchpad?

Dank u e92. I've just tried this but don't have any options to disable tap or enable scrolling. Accessories such as the 'Pressure Graph' and 'Moodpad' throw up an error message: 'This program requires a Synaptics touchpad...' So I don't think this is a Synaptics touchpad in the Pi2515. Most annoying! But thanks for your help, and your English is excellent!
Mart.

So FS uses different parts in the same family. I thought only Dell did this. Did you already try the <Fn> + <F9> combination to disable the touchpad?

Yup. Works just fine but doesn't save the setting so you've gotta do it every time you switch on/boot up.

Sorry, I'm out of options. Hope FS comes up with an answer.

Thanks for the information e92. I am pretty sure that the 2515 has an ALPS touchpad not a Synaptics one. However (i) I have been told that either device works ok with either manufacturer's driver and (ii) I have tried an ALPS driver without success. Meanwhile we are disabling the touchpad and using a mouse, but this isn't optimal.

Touchpad Driver

Postby marekovich » Tue Mar 11, 2008 3:48 pm

I recently bought this very same computer and had the same problems which Fujutsu were unable to help with.

I have found the solution.

On the Drivers and Utilities disk that came with the computer open the drivers folder where you will find the folder Touchpad. There are seven drivers located in this folder. Look for the Synaptics driver V. 9-1-2-0, it also has the number 1009286.

I installed this driver and I have full operation and features for my Touchpad.

Let me know how you get on.

Thanks, but just which features have you got? Nothing really here apart from changing mouse pointers etc. which I can do anyway in Windows.

Touchpad Driver

Postby marekovich » Tue Mar 11, 2008 7:32 pm

To martinofmoscow.

Firstly, do you have this driver on your Driver and Utility Disk, if so after installing it go to the Device Manager and under Mice and other pointing Devices you should have Synaptics PS/2 Port Pointing Device. You should also be able to see that this driver program has been installed if you go to add/remove programswhere it will be listed under Synaptics.

Next, go to Start - Control Panel - Mouse. When you click on Mouse the Mouse Properties Window will open but intead of showing a mouse it will actually show you a picture of the touchpad.

The top menu will show:

Buttons/Pointers/pointer Options/Wheel/Hardware/Device Settings.

If you click on Device Settings the new window will give you a page with another box called settings. Click on this and another window opens which will give you more information and option on settings.

In the Taskbar at the bottom right there should also be an animated icon of the touchpad which if you right click will also give you access to all of the properties and options.

Hope this works for you.
