Firstly, do you have this driver on your Driver and Utility Disk, if so after installing it go to the Device Manager and under Mice and other pointing Devices you should have Synaptics PS/2 Port Pointing Device. You should also be able to see that this driver program has been installed if you go to add/remove programswhere it will be listed under Synaptics.

Next, go to Start - Control Panel - Mouse. When you click on Mouse the Mouse Properties Window will open but intead of showing a mouse it will actually show you a picture of the touchpad.

The top menu will show:

Buttons/Pointers/pointer Options/Wheel/Hardware/Device Settings.

If you click on Device Settings the new window will give you a page with another box called settings. Click on this and another window opens which will give you more information and option on settings.

In the Taskbar at the bottom right there should also be an animated icon of the touchpad which if you right click will also give you access to all of the properties and options.

Hope this works for you.

Great, got all that fancy stuff, but WHAT DOES IT ACTUALLY DO? Where are the options to disable tap? Where is the option to set up a scroll area? Do you have anything useful in the Device Settings area? Or, like me, do you just have the option to make your left pad button always open Windows Media Player?! (Who the hell thought of that one eh?!)

Also, can you tell me, when you right-click on the system tray icon, go to 'Accessories' and choose 'Pressure Graph' or something, does this actually work for you? Because it doesn't for me.

Still none the wiser.

Touchpad Driver

Postby marekovich » Tue Mar 11, 2008 8:42 pm

Martin,

Right click on the touchpad icon and you should have three options.

1. Tap to click, which you can remove the tick to disable this function.

2. Accessories which opens the mood pad which as far as I am concerned is just a visual display gimmick which draws pretty clolours according to finger pressure on the pad.

3. Pointer Display Properties which opens a new window to give all the options I previously listed and through this you can control everything about the touchpad such as setting up the scroll area.

If you did indeed install this driver and you are not getting full control options I can only assume that although we have the same model of laptop there was a change made in the production line and a different touchpad was fitted to either yours or mine and therefore a different driver would be required.

Thanks Marekovich

I have had the same problem with my Amilo. A good lap top spoiled by the touch pad. I tried eveything. Your solution worked perfectly, it has transformed the machine. Question is why dont they ship it with this driver installed and why dont fs seem to know about it? :D

Amilo 2515 touchpad driver, tap to click

Postby centaur_AMF » Fri May 23, 2008 12:07 pm

I got my new computer months ago, but the sensitive touchpad was so maddening that I packed it away to keep sane. FS have told me that there is nothing to do as mine won't take the Symantic driver. I saw a hint to put plastc tape on the pad, and I have ended up with layers of plastic packaging sheet. It is better, but does still give the odd crazy action; I was searching for a file, and twelve successive pages appeared superimposed, which took some time and effort to delete. I see others have been troubled too. How can we get some corrective action from FS? As received, I think that it could be considered unfit for purpose. If I hadn't bought it mail order, I wouild have been straight down the shop to have them sort it out. I'm computer literate, and technical, but I don't expect to mess about juggling with drivers.

My son-in-law loaded a Synaptics driver and it works OK now.
