Really broken Amilo L1300

Postby IFO » Wed Jan 16, 2008 5:44 pm

Hi!

I have a L1300 notebook that I step on some months ago and the DVD-drive is twisted inside the computer (doesn't open, but the light flashes), screen propably broken (its also twisted, doesn't show any picture or even backlight) and the keyboard is floated. The DVD-drive isnt a problem since the computer does not boot from an USB-drive. The screen isnt a problem because I can use an external monitor with it. Same thing with keyboard and mouse. But, the real problem seems to be in the chip under spacebar (it has a passive cooler above, so I dont know what chip it is). I think it is the graphics chip, because when I push spacebar (or the cooler) when the computer is on and operating, it crashes and the screen fills with error-stripes and stuff. The computer doesnt usually start before I "exercise" the chip by applying pressure to the space bar.

So, my questions are:
Can "the chip" be fixed in any way?
and
Can the computer boot from USB by a BIOS update?

or do I just swap the rams to my other computer and the harddrive to an external usb-hdd-drive (that has a broken hdd inside)?

Thank you
IFO

Your notebook seems to be heavily damaged.
If you have another computer, and a HDD-swap could help you, I think this would be the best way. I don't know if you should swap the RAM too, as it could be broken too and cause damage to your other mainboard. At least you should run memtest if possible, before you swap the RAM.
If the keyboard is broken anyway, you could remove the spacebar and put some heavy stuff on it to push the chip underneath it.

Thanks for the reply.

I will try the RAM thing, since it could be a RAM problem aswell (RAM locates near "the chip").

The computer will start without "exersizing" "the chip", but it jams immediately; fan initialates and slows its speed, but no video is displayed and the hdd doesnt read anything. When i "exersice" spacebar when the computer is off, the video may come next time i start the computer. If the video came and i push spacebar again (somewhat harder than usual), the screen fills with error-stripes and other colours and the computer crashes right away.

This is just another computer to me, I dont have anything important in it. Just a hobby to save some computers from junkyard.

I can send some pictures from the error screen (when pushed spacebar and the computer is operating).

Edit: I tested the RAMs and didnt affect the crashing in any way. I didnt do memtest on windows, because i couldnt get far enough.

But on the first try, the BIOS screen came and crashed, and I got a picture of it :) The red part is FUJITSU and the Bluish White is Intel Celeron M-logo.

If the HDD doesn't work reliably, maybe it is damaged too. You should check this.
But maybe only the controller of the notebook is faulty. Does it make any strange sounds?

Please do so, maybe it gives additional hints.
And please take a foto of the whole notebook too. Just for entertainment. ;-)

The BIOS-screen is edited into the previous message, and here is some pictures of the laptop

Edit: I'm pretty sure that HDD isnt broken, because I have downloaded all the information from it into other computer by the USB-adapter. And it doesnt make any sounds, the loudspeakers are working tough in Windows.
