Amilo PA 2548 Windows XP Brightness issues  Topic is solved

Postby Lucif3r » Wed Feb 06, 2008 12:53 am

Good day.

About a week ago i bought myself a new laptop, since my old one lacked performance...

Unfortunely, my new laptop came with windows vista, which i really cant live with.

After hours of searching the web after the correct drivers for XP, i finaly got it to work.

But.... There is one thing i simply cant get working, which is why i post here.

The brightness... It simply wont work with the fn+f8/f9 keys :(
It does work in bios, but as soon as windows loads, it stops working.

I could live with this if it wasnt for one thing; the brightness resets to max each time i plug the powercoord in, forcing me to restart the computer in order to adjust it.

I really want to get this working! I have tried alot of different graphicdrivers, chipset drivers, variuos windows updates etc... And all that has caused is either nothing or a crash :(

I have done some searching about this issue both here and on amilo-forum.de.... But my german is quite terrible, so i dont get much help from there

Also, is there any way to get the silent fan mode working on XP? its no biggie, but would be nice...
I got the button to work, and the tray icon says "throttling 50%", but it aint lowering anything :?

Ah, one more thing: Does anyone know of any drivers/software to get the scrolling on the touchpad to work? The FS-software doesnt ...

Unfortunately there seems to be no solution for your problem with the brightness-control via Fn+F8/F9. It was a major topic in a thread in the german forum of 12 pages length.

One user mentioned that the Light Sensor Function of Vista works with XP too and proposed to control the brightness this way. But since I have no PA 2548 I can't confirm this.

Hello!
I managed to install XP on this notebook using the drivers that you posted! THANK YOU!!!

I managed to control the brightness of the screen using this little utility:
"A small system-tray application that allows you to control the screen brightness on your laptop or Tablet PC."

http://www.ookii.org/software/#Brightness
http://www.ookii.org/download.ashx?id=B ... Controller

Try it! It's very useful, even if you can't use the FN buttons!

Bye!!!

Ahhhhhhh! Thank you so much! This is working great!

Sorry for the huge delay with reply, but I had actually given up hope of ever fixing this

So, THANK YOU! :D

Now i can actually read on the laptop while on battery :)
(sidenote: i used nvidia control panel to adjust the brightness to a "normal" brightness level when the power was plugged in, which made the screen almost pitchblack when on battery)

Did i say thank you? hm, ah well, thank you! :D

O dear. I can't believe it. youve solved my problem man.... after searching 4 hours and nearly giving up about that nasty problem, i found this topic and guess what? I found your link.... :p
Actually my problem was way harder to solve than Lucif3r . my os is XP X64 SP2 installing in a toshiba laptop ( P200-JS5 ). i spent more than 8 hours finding damn drivers and manipulating infs and exacly when i though everything is fine.... i notined that problem.... fn keys for lcd backlight are controlled with bios in this model so it should work anywhere..... well, with one little exception: NOT IN 64 BIT MODE !!!!!

i tried updating BIOS ......every piece of software that kinda related to backlight or brightness...... and no luck. till i get this little software... wow man, just wow

and finally .... I dont give a damn about how much old this topic is . You solved my problem and I just registered here to say thank you.

Did i say thank you? hm, ah well, then thank you again! :)
and next thank you will go to http://www.ookii.org for their great piece of software.

PS: Those of you with nvidia chipset should not face anyproblem cause you can change backlight in the your graphic card settings (http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/) . but my chipset is ATI and it doesnt have that option.
