notebook freezes when moved ???

Postby mtesa » Mon Jul 31, 2006 6:57 pm

Two of my notebooks, both by FSC, an S7010 and A7640W work fine when held on topof desk. Even if I close the lid, and open it, it works.

But, ...
If I lift the notebook, or move it, it simply freezes.
Pointer is dead, keyboard too, no activity.
Only solution is to power-down and power-up again.

I posted this sam question at FSC forum, but still no answer.

Does anyone of you know what is wrong ?

p.s.
offcourse, notooks are bought second hand on e-bay and out of warranty.

Possible problems with the heatsink, but however it could be anything else.

It's odd that you have the same problem with two different notebooks.

You don't have warranty - in this case you could reassemble the notebooks yourself, maybe it helps. Of course you should do that only if you think you can do that.

I have a similar problem but a liitle bit different.
I have also a post on the official fujitsu site.
I don't know if i may put a link of that site here so don't do that.

The laptop works fine but when i remove the power cable the screens turns Black with some vertical coloured lines inside it depends what's the screen showed. Need to power down and powerup to fix it.
The bios is the latest version (1.04C) from the fujitsu site.

Can't be a heat problem because i cleaned the heatsink and applied it with fresh thin layer of arctic silver 5.

I think it has something to do with a driver because i can plug and unplug the cable 1000 Times when win XP is loading but when it's booted to desktop it does the black screen problem.

(Amilo A7640)

I hope this is not a topic Hijack.
(Sorry for my improper english)

Its been few days, and A7640 is working perfectly since :D
Today, its S7010's turn
First, I noticed that after I turn it on, CPU fan works for some time and then simply stops. And doesnt come on again. Notebook works for some time and then starts to slow down and eventualy freezes.
I opened it, disconnected power supply from CPU fan and tried to hardwire a fan to a +5V from hdd connector.
But when notebook was turned on it gave me an error inidcating that CPU fan and temperature sensing circuit are malfunctioning.
So I found a +2.5V soldering point near a CPU and soldered it to a CPU supply lead.
Now, fan non-stop, but with lower RPM, but notebook worked whole night without any problem (burn-in tests were initiated from Hyren CD).

But there is still a moving problem
Will infrom on progress.

As far as I can tell, display driver is responsable for those nasty lines on picture above.

Just now I noticed that all four of my DDRAM chips are IDENTICAL!

HYNIX PC2700S-25330
HYMD532M646A6-J AA-A
256MB DDR 333MHz CL2.5

Could this be a problem?
I dont see how, but I'm asking anyhow.

No, there isn't any matter if they are called the same way. Try to test your memory with memtest+. May be you have a bad RAM as you said above that one of the memory cards is bugging the things.

I've done it few days ago.
No errors.

I noteced this.
1. First memory slot is occupied, second is free = no problem
2. First free, secon occupied = problems
3. Both occupied = problems

Tried with all four of them individaly.
Same thing happends on both notebooks :?

Quick fix = trade 4 x 256MB for 2 x 512MB

As for A7640 it works like a dream with one memory sot occupied.
Trouble is still an S7010.
When carried by holding for front corners (from kеyboard towards your body)
as I usualy do, freezes.
In those corners are HDD (on right side) and PCMCIA on the left.

I re-assembled this notebook three times allready, making sure that everything is in its place and firm. But, .... No luck still.

Any ideas ?

I solved the nasty lines problem.

I used a manual cool&quiet utility (Crystalcpuid)
i reinstalled my windows and installed the drivers and software 1 at a time with a reboot.
Crystalcpuid was the problem.

Laptop is now fully stable with:
1 X 512MB Kingston 333 CL 2.5
1 X 256MB Hynix 333 CL 2.5

working on 1T command rate
