Amilo A 1667G DVD Drive problem

Postby Alasdair » Mon Mar 03, 2008 7:27 pm

Since I formatted my laptop, it appears to be unable to read DVDs. When I insert one, the drive just makes a small noise every so often as though it were attempting to read the disc before finally giving up.

Following the format I installed all the drivers that were previously on the laptop (from the manufacturer's CD) so the driver that's installed for the drive is the same one it had before the format.

Furthermore, the drive behaves very strangely when certain DVDs are put in. I recently bought the DVD box set of a favourite television program of mine and the drive plays the DVD fine (using VLC and Windows Media Player) for around the first 3 or 4 minutes before freezing and then causing the player to crash. Before it freezes, I can skip to any part of the DVD so it's not a certain point, it's after a certain period of time that it's freezing. This is what I find most bizarre.

It reads CD-ROMs fine without any problems whatsoever.

Any help would be appreciated.
