Postby jayharu » Tue Mar 11, 2008 12:45 pm

hiya soon to be fellow amilo friends! i hail from saudi arabia though im filipino.

ive been deciding to buy a fujitsu siemens amilo xi 2428 in our local distributor.

before i buy i do need to ask a few q on this matter.

1.) can i upgrade my ram from 2gig to 3-4 gig?

2.)can linux support ALL hardware component of the 2428?

3.) can windows XP support ALL hardware in terms of driver availability?

4.) how about the stability and durability of the unit itself?

1) The chipset supports 4GB of RAM. But if the Bios is really able to use it is not for sure.
2) Im not sure about the Webcam, but the rest should be supported (may vary between distributions).
3) Yes, but with a question mark on the Webcam too.
4) No idea, I have never seen it.

I think some guys in the german forum already tried what you have listed. If I have time, I will have a look at it.

Edit:
1) Seems to work.
2) No infos found.
3) Everything works, including Webcam

Unfortunately there were few links mentioned.
You will need to integrate SATA-support to your XP-CD (see the stickies).
The chipset driver can be found at the FSC-site (yes there is one for XP).
Graphics can be found at the nvidia-site
LAN can be found at the realtek-site.
For sound you can use the Pa 1538-driver.

This Webcam-driver should work (starts download directly):
http://download1.msi.com.tw/files/downloads/dvr_exe/Bison_Camera_XP_Vista_NB.zip

For the rest: Google
Watch out for Xi 2528-drivers too. Someone mentioned, that the only difference is the display.

Remote control and turbo memory may not work.

awwww. and i thought those will also work.... well, meybe ill just upgrade my memory and use vista and hope that fsc will be kind enough to provide xp drivers for the 2428 in the future....

last q before i go....

i have some hardware (i.e. a genius g-pen tablet/digitizer) with a certified for xp. i was wondering if the driver can work on the vista since both are in 32 bit...

if not, mebby theres an altersoution...

Maybe the RC works, because a user in the german forum said that he made it work. But he didn't say how.

Turbo Memory is not supported by XP. And no, FSC will not provide further XP-drivers in the future.

I don't know if your digitizer will work with vista. The XP-driver may work or may not. You should ask genius for Vista-drivers.
