Alienware BIOS on Amilo 1536?

Postby Ferlauf » Thu Mar 13, 2008 12:04 pm

I had to put a BIOS version 1.19w for Alienware m5750/m5790 on my Amilo 1536, in order to upgrade the memory.
I saw that there is a BIOS version 2.07w for Alienware m5500. Since that is the same motherboard, I guess I can put that one, too.
The question is, what is the difference between those two BIOSes and which one is newer?
I hope that someone here knows the answer???

I don't think it is worth risking to kill your notebook with an inofficial BIOS. In the end the notebook is manufactured in Taiwan anyway, but the BIOS might be adapted to FSC / Alienware the way that it could cause problems flashing a wrong BIOS. And if you fail, you won't have warranty any more.
At least, what will be different, is that you lose the FSC OEM strings. That is for Vista to check the validity of your notebook. Without these strings, Vista wants to be activated and the key on the bottom of your notebook might not work any more.

Do not confuse Alienware m5500 and m5550! M5550 must be compatible. M5500 isn't.
