Changing 2.5 hdd pata with sata  Topic is solved

Postby codred2 » Sat Mar 15, 2008 9:06 am

Hello everyone, I am new here. I need a help in regard with my laptop Amilo 1667g.I would like to change the hdd 100 gb PATA with Hitachi 200 gb 7200 rpm SATA. First it is possible to put SATA on this laptop, or is made only for PATA hdd?

Thanks

You cannot use SATA HDs if you have a mainboard that only has PATA connections, which you do.

PATA disks are older than SATA? It's immpossible to find PATA in small computer stores. I have some problems with it before [solved] now I have two disks 160GB inside & 80GB in IBox USBdevice..

I have a mainboard that only has PATA connections on Amilo M7405.. My question is - If I put a SATA disk in this USBdevice(for PATA/SATA) did my laptop gonna work with it :?:

You can use your SATA-drive in this external case (as long as it supports SATA-drives, of course) and it will work, because Windows will see it only as an USB-device. But you can't use external drives for installing and boot windows from them (just in case you thought of this).

Hi all,

..going back to initial post. As far i i understood is not possible to use a SATA HDD on this Laptop , but why the slot where is the hdd there is other conection coming from motherboard (saw it when upgarded the hdd), it looks like S-ATA slot the same like for 3.5 HDD but smaller ( i do not know how it looks like the 2.5 hdd one), for what is that slot? And one more thing , on Amilo manual is explainig how the hdd is mounting, for P-ATA and it says for S-ATA too?
