[L7300]RAM : 1GB or 1GB+256MB ?

Postby Tugdu77 » Sat Mar 15, 2008 10:42 am

Hi !

I've just buy a 1GB So-dimm PC3200. Currently, I have 2x256MB PC2700.
What's the best solution ? :
- Keep a 256MB to have 1,25 GB RAM (where must be the 1GB ? Left ou right slot ?)
- Remove the 2x256 and install the 1GB alone

Thanks

The best solution would be to have two identical modules as you could run them in dual channel to increse the speed.

If you need the additional capacity you should only insert the new module as it is faster than your old modules. It doesn't matter which slot you use.

I'd use 1024+256 MB, if it works.
You won't notice the difference PC2700/PC3200 under normal circumstances. But 256 MB more can't hurt - if Windows has to use the swap, it will be very slow and we want to avoid this... ;-)

Edit:
DualChannel isn't supported, even with two identical modules.

Hello !
I just received my 1GB PC3200...
Black screen on start up (green lights on). The PC doesn't start...
It's SAMSUNG 400mhz PC3200 K4H1G0838A-TCCC
I tried both slots with or without 256MB...

Do you think that the problem come from the RAM or from the PC ??

Thanks
