Largest Supported HDD on 3438G?

Postby Briticent » Sat Mar 15, 2008 4:46 pm

Hi

Does anyone know the largest hard drive that can be put into the Amilo 3438G laptop?

Or at least what sizes have people been putting in? I know that 120Gig is the 'safe' option but has anyone used anything larger in this particular laptop? I will be putting it in as a 2nd HDD (I am aware I need the kit first).

There is nothing on the Fujitsu website about it nor the Via website from what I can see. I have the 1.10C BIOS as well.

In case any admins are interested, the 3438G HDD kit can be bought from these guys for about £30 - FSCparts@servicesource.co.uk - they are actually mentioned on the Fujitsu Siemens website in the support section.

Capacities over 128GB should work. The current maximum is 320GB.

But depending on the serial number (first 5 characters) of the notebook some manufacturers aren't supported.

Thanks for the reply.

When you say the current maximum is 320Gig do you mean the maximum size that new/current notebooks sold at the moment can take? The 3438G is about 3 years old now...

Also when you say that some manufacturers aren't supported what do you mean exactly?

There seems to more than one serial number on the bottom of my notebook:

- YSNS0
- PZXF1

The maximum capacity of 2,5" HDDs currently sold is 320GB.

In the german amilo-forum there are some threads where users stated, that WD, Samsung or Hitachi-drives did not work in their M3438G. This behavior seems to depend on the serial number.

I couldn't find clear infos about models with your serial number. The only statement was from a user who wanted to try a WD2500BEVS but never returned any feedback.
