Fix for dead Amilo notebook

Postby davisderby » Wed Mar 26, 2008 10:28 am

For information - I've just fixed an Amilo notebook that was completely dead and would not start at all. The only led that would come on is the battery charge led if the battery was not full. It turned out to be the lid closed switch that was malfunctioning. There is obviously an interlock that disables the power switch if the lid is closed. This is fine until the switch malfunctions. To see if this is your problem poke the lid switch with something small like a paper clip. If, after a bit of poking the notebook will start then this is your problem. To fix it take the top panel just above the keyboard off (lever it up carefully with a screwdriver). You will see a small connector at the left hand side - pull this out with some pliers. This disables the switch so the notebook thinks the lid is always open.

Thanks for your tips.
I tried to locate the lid switch on a Amilo D1840, but I can´t find it.
Do you know if it is hidden inside one of the hinges to the lid?

On the Amilo I fixed it was to the left of the left hand hinge in a small depression.

Thanks for reply davisderby!

No sign of a lid switch anywhere. I removed the hinge covers also. The switch might be hidden inside the LCD panel lid at one of the hinges, but thats only a guess.
Has anybody opened a D 1840?

Cheers!
