CPU upgrade Amilo L7320 : big problem with EIST

Postby Akwa » Sun Mar 30, 2008 1:21 pm

Hi,

I just upgraded my L7320 (Celeron M390 @ 1.6GHz FSB@400MHz) with a Pentium M "Dothan" 740 @ 1.73GHz (FSB@533 MHz).

It works. But there is a big problem : the CPU run at 800 MHz and want not speed up (even with 100% CPU load).

In fact, the BIOS don't permit to activate the Intel Extended Speed Step, and then de CPU run at the lower speed.

I succeed to activate "manually" the EIST by editing the MSR CPU register, but it's not a good solution (and need to be at each restart).

Have someboy an idea to solve this problem ?

Thanks
Akwa

Did you already try the "hardware reset" (see FAQ for description)?

With RM Clock or which tool did you use?

Hi Aaron,

Thanks for your very fast answer.

1. Yes, I did the Hard-Reboot, and Bios reset, without any result.

2. yes, RM clock works, but its not compatible with "Note Book Hardware Control".
Initally, I used "CrystalCPUID" : menu "Function" > "MSR Editor", then "MSR Number" = 0x1A0 and EAX = 0x00011480 (in place of 0x00001480, thanks to Intel documentation).
It's really not an easy way to activate and use the Intel Speed Step.

3. But worst : it appears now, that at full speed (1733 MHz), computer freeze after a couple of minutes. I'm forced

to limit the CPU coef (in "Note Book Hardware Control") at 11x.

Perhaps the 533MHz FSB is not supported by Amilo L7320 ? Or by the RAM ?

In a previous topic, everybody succeed to replace their Celeron by Pentium M in their Amilo L7300, without problem.
I don't understand why I have so trooble with my Pentium M...

Regards
Akwa.
