Big S-ATA problem on PA 2548  Topic is solved

Postby FLorinPPopescu » Wed Apr 02, 2008 11:26 am

Or maybe it's small, but for me it's big now.

I bought an Amilo PA 2548 with and 320Gb S-ATA hdd and i can't install on it Windows XP Pro, although i have implementent in the installation kit several S-ATA drivers that i've found online on forums where people disccused the same, same problem.

I've also tried to install Ubuntu Linux but it crushed the kernel.

I don't want Vista, so, what's it to be done?

well.. this notebook seems to be very random about how to handle specific sata drivers. Many people have problems with this notebook as reported in the German section of the amilo-forum. Somehow nVidia didn't do a good job with this chipset or there are some freaky modifications that the OEM did.

However,... have you tried all the drivers that you can find in the packages given above at the same time? You can integrate more than one SATA controller(!) driver at the same time with XP-ISO-Builder. Try to integrate all different drivers that we gave you as controller driver, but only integrate them with the option of the right OS type! That is, do not integrate the (e.g.) Windows 2000, Windows 98 drivers but integrate only the WinXP drives! That is very important.
If Win2000 and WinXP drivers are in the same line and chosen with the same checkbox, dont worry.

You may also try nlite. Here, the drives must be integvrated as textmode drivers.

In both cases, do not change any settings with these tools. Just do the integration.

This is Amilo Pa 2548-11P. I have burned about 20 different bootable XPsetup cd versions with WF XP Iso burner, and the best result is that the setup hangs in screen displaying: "file viamrx64.sys is corrupt".

Yes! That was the best result i got in preparing different XP setup disks. After all I did get a little bit bored, so I decided to do things more complicated way, which means: it was easy to install Linux Ubuntu in Amilo - everything worked fine - exept the connection to internet does not work... Now next step is learn how to put XP running under Linux?

By the way - if there is someone who wants to by Amilo Pa 2548 laptop computer, I can sell. Is 500 € too much?

I just wonder. It is possible to copy booting XP hd partition to Amilo sata drive as it is, yes. Would Amilo boot XP after that, XP still having not right/real XP sata driver?

I jus ask if this is worth to try?

You can't just boot another XP installation - but it would require the same driver, so it doesn't solve your problem anyway.

You have to integrate the correct XP 32 bit driver. If it doesn't work, then try another tool for the integration.
