Postby hic » Tue Apr 08, 2008 11:04 am

Hi
I have put 2 1gb pc2700 in my amilo l6820 but not recognised. It is generic Ram is a compatibility problem or can I manage frequencies in the Bios to resolve that?
Thanks a lot

Most likely it is a compatibility-problem.
Does it work with only one module or a mix of old and new modules?

I have tried with both the 2 new rams, and one in each modules but nothing. But I didn't tried one new with an old, so I'll send feedback of the operation ...

I think you can skip this. If even one module alone isn't recognised, a mix won't work too.

Upgrading RAM is always a bit tricky. If you use brand-modules (MDT, Kingston, Samsung) your chances that it will work are higher.

also a new with an old doesn't work. I've never understand why sometimes generic rams doesn't work , can you explain ? Note that the generic are perfectly recognised in a asus MB from a PC, so how to know which brand Ram is compatible with which MB brand? Is a brand that work eveywhere ? Thanks a lot

I don't know why some modules work while others don't or why they work in one notebook but not in another.

I think that it has to do with the tolerances of the electrical specifications. Maybe some modules are designed more accurate while others aren't. And some Notebooks (controllers) may handle bigger variations than others.

Unfortunately there is no patent remedy. It's just try and error.
