V2030 - Over heating

Postby DanAllkins » Sat Apr 12, 2008 11:08 pm

Hello All.

I have been given by my boss his laptop to look at as it keeps over heating.

It's a V2030 - It wont stay on for more than 5 mins before it freezes.
He said 'the computer shop' said it was the fan and said he was going to replace it, but didnt.

I have taken the bottom off and I can see the heat sink on the processor but shouldnt there be afan on top of that like desktop PC's??

I have added a photo of the underside of the laptop -

Image

is it missing or am I looking in the wrong place?

Cheers for any help

Dan

Yes, there should be a fan in the upper left corner! This is very strange.
Ask the guy in 'the computer shop', if he has removed the fan without replacing it.
Has your boss ever heared a fan?

If there was no fan from the beginning, return the notebook!

So there should be a fan on the heatsink! - Any idea where I could get a replacement fan??

Yo can find adresses here:
http://www.amilo-forum.com/topic,37,-Contact-address-of-FSC.html

But first you should find out who is responsible for the missing fan (FSC, the dealer, 'the computer shop')!
Whoever it is, he should pay for a new one. This is an apparent defect and neither you nor your boss is in charge of solving it.

Should the Fan sit over the Heat Sink as I would expect with a deaktop PC?

I spoke to my Boss and he was thinking to go back to the computer shop... but doubts he will get anywhere!
If I could get the dimensions for the fan I could try Maplin's to see if I could get one there.

Please have a look at this picture:
http://www.amilo-forum.de/download.php?id=3035

It shows my notebook. The design differs a bit from yours but basically the fan should be at the same position.

Unfortunately the design of the notebook-fans differs from one model to another. So my fan wouldn't fit into your notebook and you will hardly find a fan that fits except the ones especially designed for the V2030.

The edited picture shows where I would expect your fan (incl. housing). The module should be in the solid or the dashed line.

Cheers for this.. I see the 'white' port where the fan plugs in.. I have emailed the spares department from those links you gave me, so fingers crossed I should be able to get one.
This is the first time I've replace anything on a laptop... I know a desktop CPU fan whould be cheap, but do you have any idea what I could expect to pay for the fan?.

I'm not sure but I would expect a price close to 50 Euro.

Cheers for the help mate.. You have been a great help.
I'm hoping to get a reply from Siemens soon so I can purchase a new fan.

Is there any fitting instructions for the fan online?? as I said before.. I normally work on desktops and not touched laptops before.

Cheers

I don't know if there is a fitting instruction. Maybe you can find one in the manuals:
http://support.fujitsu-siemens.com/com/support/manuals.html

If you ask FSC again, they will surely mail you one. But if you take care of ESD it shouldn't be a problem.

Hi Dan,

[quote="He said 'the computer shop' said it was the fan and said he was going to replace it, but didnt.

[/quote]

There are so many so called professional Computer Shops out there - be careful!

Yes in short it is missing - it looks like this (photo attached - or see http://www.pchub.com/uph/category/88-12 ... g-Fan.html as I can't see the photo in Preview.)

The part number is T6010F05HD-A-C01, 21-20848 and you can get one by calling this number at Fujitsu Siemens 01925 251 608. They are about £18 + delivery + VAT. (Delivery by couriers in (usually) a couple of days.

Fairly easy to fit - I guess - three screws and a cable to plug in - about 10 mins?

Good luck

Steve
