This seems to be a common problem with Linux.
I have the same symptoms in Debian and Suse but never bothered.

However, there seem to be solutions for Gentoo and Fedora (at least partially).

When I have time, I will test if I can make my keys work and tell you about the result. But since I don't consider it to be an essential problem, I will not hurry.

In Debian it was easier than I thought. But the solution isn't applicable to PCLinuxOS.

I tried PCLinuxOS in VirtualBox. Unfortunately VirtualBox only emulates a standard-keyboard, so I cannot really test anything.
The Fedora-solution will not work.

But if you go to Control Center (Administration Center) -> Hardware -> Set up the Keyboard Layout and select another "Keyboard type" you may be able to make the Fn-keys work.

Another possibility may be in the users Control Center -> Regional & Accessibility -> Keyboard Shortcuts -> Modifier Keys

A third possibility could be the package manager. If you search for "keyboard" the first entry is called "acme" which has a promising description. Maybe another package may work if this one doesn't.

Maybe you will need to setup more than one of these points mentioned above. If you find a solution, please post it!
