Li 1818; Windows XP SP2 Home and NO SOUND. Help please!  Topic is solved

Postby holydave » Tue Apr 15, 2008 2:40 am

Hey guys

I've been lurking for a while now and have searched these forums extensively and as such I have managed to vanquish Vista and install my old copy of XP (SP2) in its stead.

However, the only thing that doesn't work for me is the sound. Whenever I install the appropriate drivers from the Fujitsu Siemens website (FSC_ALC883_Device_Driver_5_10_0_5319__1008230), nothing seems to happen afterwards. The audio device continues to be undetected by the PC.

I really can't work out what the problem is. I've installed all of the XP updates, net frameworks etc, but still I can't hear anything. This is especially frustrating as I am a music student and need to use sequencing software for college work.

Please, please help me. It really is quite desperate.

Have you installed SP2 and KB888111?

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I have got Service Pack 2 (SP2) and I downloaded the hotfix at your behest, uninstalled the sound drivers then installed them again, and still nothing. Windows just doesn't detect my audio hardware, and installing the specified HD drivers does nothing, even though similar drivers (they differ only in that they are compatible with vista) worked a treat when I had Vista Premium installed.

Any more help would be most appreciated,

Dave

Ah turned out to be alot simpler than it should have been.

I went into device manager, then updated the drivers for an unrecognised PCI Bus, which turned out to be my sound card. I then updated all the unknown drivers etc that popped up, and hey presto, lovely sound.

Thanks for your help, I think it was the hotfix that added the PCI thing to the device manager as I had never seen it there before.

Thanks again!

Is your modem installed?
Both devices share the same bus and sometimes installing the modem is necessary to make the audio work.
btw: It's important to use the version with the correct language of KB888111.

Another possibility could be the "Deskupdate" from the FSC-site. I never used it, but sometimes it seems to work better than the standard installation.

As a last chance I would recommend you to reinstall XP from scratch by strictly following this installation order:
- chipset driver
- graphics driver
- KB888111
- sound driver
- modem
- LAN
- WLAN
