HI


Can amilo D7830 or almost identical Gericom Hummer 5600FX boot from USB? In bios i have set booting option to Removable device but it didnt help

removable device is for USB Pendrives or maybe smoethink else?

I don't know if the D7830 can boot fom USB. But M-series amilos (same generation) are not able to boot from USB as far as I know.

Why don't you give it a try? Create a boot-stick, confirm that it works on another computer and plug it into your notebook.

btw, i've wanted to build light media center with old amilo notebook and geexbox linux system but i see that without hdd it is not possible to boot

I would recommend you to get a small HDD and install geexbox to it.
At the moment the price is circa 1Euro per GB, so a 40GB-drive should be affordable. 20GB are getting rare now, but maybe you can still find one.

Since geexbox only needs a few MB of diskspace, maybe you should consider to run a full linux.
Taking into account, that the hardware is older, Xubuntu 6.06 (with LTS) may be a good choice.

Edit:
The "alternate" version may run even faster.
