Good morning one and all,
This is my first visit here (as I have only recently become and owner of a FS Amilo notebook) and, unfortunately, it is with several issues that I arrive.
I hope someone may be able to suggest a few things rather than me just sending the whole thing back and asking for my money back.
I have had the Amilo for 2 weeks. Bought it new in the UK and it fitted the bill for my requirements. Mostly personal use but with the ability to cover working from home when required.
But I am typing this on my ancient Compaq Presario 2810T !
I took the Amilo away with me to Germany, where I am working for a time. Within 5 days it had locked up on me.
Scenario. Was listening to BBC radio via web then closed web applications and disconnected from web via the icon.
Went for a shower, came back and pressed a key to clear screen saver and....frozen. In the end I powered it off.
Upon switch on I got the option to press F2 and go to the boot screen. I did this and it was teling me there was no HDD. The machine was "whirring it's heart out" at this time. Eventually it went to a black screen and repeatedly told me
No Operating System.
I left the PC overnight and all was ok the next morning.
I tried to use the FS 'tool' to burn the revoery DVD that it advises but, whenever I put the DVD+RW into the drive it was popped out again within 20 seconds and no option was displayed for me to introduce disc 2. So I got hacked off at that point.
Thie morning I was, again, listening to BBC radio and reading emails (yahoo web based) when I got a blue screen which said something like
"Windows is closing down your PC for a security reason to protect windows" Blah blah blah.
I restarted it and it was OK.
Back to the BBC and reading the news papers online.
I left the PC and went to watch the superbike race on television.
When I returned the screen, once again, was black with the
No Operating System
message. I got totally fed up and turned it off and fired up this ole Compaq.
The machine I have, as I say, is 2 weeks old with Vista HP on it.
I would have much preferred XP pro (as I have on this machine) but, as you can probably tell from my descriptions, I am a PC user and have no great knowledge of the workings.
So, any suggestions or, as is my current idea, should I just send it back and get money back as the machine is, obviously, not fit for purpose?
Other than the above...it's a really nice machine
Thanks for taking the time to look over my saga!
